District college football roundup: Cal (Pa.) rocks IUP in Coal Bowl
Davis Black passed for 261 yards and Eric McKan III rushed for 105 yards to lead Cal (Pa.) to a 30-20 victory over IUP in the Coal Bowl on Saturday afternoon.
McKan and Matt Charlton had rushing touchdowns and Khalil Taylor returned a blocked punt 10 yards for a score for the Vulcans (4-1, 3-0 PSAC).
Karst Hunter threw a pair of touchdown passes for IUP (3-3, 1-2). Cal outgained IUP, 407-209.
Seton Hill 24, Clarion 17 – Ky’Ron Craggette’s 2-yard touchdown run with just over three minutes remaining was the winning score as Seton Hill (2-4, 1-2) got past Clarion (1-5, 0-3) in PSAC play. Craggette’s touchdown came after Clarion tied the game on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Zach Benedek to Corahn Alleyne. Benedek and Alleyne also connected for a 16-yard TD pass in the first quarter. Taz Morris had a 100-yard kickoff return for Seton Hill and Hayden Teska threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Cody Rubrecht. Teska threw for 176 yards.
Slippery Rock 75, Mercyhurst 31 – Brayden Long threw for 226 yards and four touchdowns as No. 10 Slippery Rock (6-0, 3-0) lit up Mercyhurst (1-5, 0-3) in PSAC action. The Rock racked up 469 yards of offense and outscored Mercyhurst 34-0 in the third quarter. Chris D’Or and Isaiah Edwards rushed for a pair of scores and Kyle Sheets caught a pair of touchdown passes. Jalen Butera rushed for 208 yards and three touchdowns for the Lakers.
Gannon 23, Edinboro 12 – Nate Mikell threw for 186 yards and two touchdowns as Gannon (3-3, 3-0) beat Edinboro (2-4, 1-2) in a PSAC matchup. Donny Marcus ran for 85 yards for the Golden Knights while teammate Donell Mason caught five passes for 75 yards and a touchdown. Keoke Toomer recorded nine tackles, one sack and one forced fumble for Gannon, which recovered three Edinboro fumbles. The Fighting Scots’ Isaac Bernard threw for 171 yards and a 22-yard touchdown to Mike Watkins. Watkins finished with eight receptions for 93 yards.
Division III
Carnegie Mellon 80, Thiel 22 – Ben Mills threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as Carnegie Mellon (5-1, 5-1) routed Thiel (2-4, 2-4) in PAC play. CMU was actually outgained, 313-312, but scored four return touchdowns. Thomas Coury had a 31-yard punt return and 23-yard fumble return for a score. Adrian Williams had a 48-yard interception return and Wayne Pirt ran a fumble back 38 yards. Scott Oliver threw for 211 yards and two scores for Thiel. Chase Lawler had 11 catches for 85 yards and a TD.
Case Western 19, Saint Vincent 0 – Riley Knurek caught four passes for 93 yards and a touchdown from Alex Fromberg as Case Western (4-1, 4-1) shut out Saint Vincent (2-3, 2-3) in a PAC matchup. Fromberg threw for 238 yards. Austin Slye threw for 206 yards for Saint Vincent.
Grove City 48, Geneva 21 – Logan Pfeuffer threw for 289 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Clayton Parrish had 138 yards rushing and two scores to lead Grove City (6-0, 6-0) past Geneva (1-4, 1-4) in a PAC game. Scott Fraser had six catches for 149 yards and a touchdown for the Wolverines and Cole DeFillippo had a 36-yard interception return for a score. Dom Allegretto picked off a pass and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown for Geneva.
Washington & Jefferson 35, Allegheny 28 – Washington & Jefferson (5-1, 5-1) built an early lead and held off a late Allegheny (2-4, 2-4) rally to secure a PAC win. Jacob Pugh threw for 185 yards and four touchdowns for the Presidents and Zachai Simmons returned a blocked punt 15 yards for a score. Kobe DeRosa had two touchdown catches. Kyrie Miller had 151 yards and two touchdown runs in the fourth quarter for Allegheny to cut the lead to seven points. Jack Johnson threw for 286 yards and a touchdown.
Westminster 42, Bethany 7 – Ty McGowan threw for 214 yards and four touchdowns to lead Westminster (3-2, 3-2) to the PAC win over Bethany (0-5, 0-5). Ryan Gomes ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns for Westminster, which led 28-0 at halftime. Westminster outgained Bethany, 459-231.
