District college football roundup: Cal (Pa.) starts fast, rolls past Seton Hill

Eric Willis scored on a 75-yard touchdown catch on the first play from scrimmage, sparking Cal (Pa.) to a 41-14 PSAC victory over Seton Hill on Saturday.

Davis Black was 14 for 23 for 300 yards and four touchdowns for the Vulcans (5-1, 4-0). Omari Hopkins caught five balls for 132 yards and three scores. Dominic Solomon and Keith Charney returned interceptions for touchdowns.

Kofi Kwaw was 13 for 22 for 122 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions for Seton Hill (2-5, 1-3). Ky’ron Craggette ran for 87 yards and Mark Bails caught five passes for 111 yards and a touchdown.

IUP 20, Edinboro 10 – Dayjure Stewart ran for 162 yards, including a 78-yard touchdown in the first quarter, and also caught a 19-yard TD pass to lead IUP (4-3, 2-2) to a PSAC victory. IUP took the lead for good on a 21-yard scoring strike from Nico Marchitelli to Quinn Zinobile in the third quarter. Matt Carlisle was 15 for 28 for 208 yards and a touchdown and ran for 65 yards for Edinboro (2-5, 1-3). Mike Watkins caught seven passes for 95 yards, including a 58-yard TD grab.

Mercyhurst 36, Clarion 35 – Jaylen Butera’s 1-yard touchdown run with five seconds left in the game, followed by Adam Urena’s two-point conversion pass to Braydon Black, capped Mercyhurst’s PSAC comeback win at Clarion (1-6, 0-4). Butera rushed for 182 yards and two touchdowns while Urena threw for 199 yards and three TDs. Mercyhurst (2-5, 1-3) trailed by 21 points midway through the second quarter. Zach Benedek ran for 163 yards and a touchdown for Clarion, which gained 335 yards overall on the ground.

Slippery Rock 49, Gannon 24 – In a PSAC matchup, Brayden Long threw for 263 yards and four touchdowns as No. 10 Slippery Rock (7-0, 4-0) overcame an early 14-point deficit to defeat Gannon (3-4, 3-1). Kyle Sheets caught seven passes for 134 yards and three touchdowns for Slippery Rock. Donny Marcus ran for 108 yards for Gannon while quarterback Nate Mikell threw for 135 yards and ran for 48 yards and two touchdowns.

Division III

Carnegie Mellon 41, Bethany 7 – Tre Vasiliadis ran for 135 yards and a touchdown as Carnegie Mellon (6-1, 6-1) beat Bethany (0-6, 0-6) in a PAC contest. Nolan Pitsenberger had a career-high 11 tackles and a blocked punt for the Tartans, who had four interceptions and two fumble recoveries, including one by Cortland Mitchell for a fourth-quarter touchdown.

Case Western 31, Westminster 6 – Alex Fromberg threw for 203 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 77 yards and another score as Case Western (5-1, 5-1) rolled to a PAC win. Dominic Wade caught three passes for 64 yards and a touchdown. Taite Beachy had a 31-yard TD catch for Westminster (3-3, 3-3), which was held to 104 yards of offense.

Geneva 20, Thiel 9 – Brutus Ogilvie hit Hilton McClain Jr. with three touchdown passes as Geneva (2-4, 2-4) defeated Thiel (2-5, 2-5) in PAC play. Ogilvie threw for 159 yards while McClain caught four passes for 119 yards. David Reid III added 161 rushing yards for the Golden Tornadoes. Joseph Fell threw for 53 yards and ran for 66 yards for Thiel.

Grove City 31, Allegheny 7 – Nico Flati ran for 186 yards and two touchdowns and Clayton Parrish ran for two more scores as Grove City (7-0, 7-0) cruised to a PAC win. Scott Fraser caught four passes for 72 yards. Declan O’Brien caught eight passes for 89 yards for Allegheny (2-5, 2-5).

Waynesburg 24, Saint Vincent 0 – Samuel Barber threw for 207 yards and two touchdowns as Waynesburg (1-5, 1-5) picked up the PAC shutout against Saint Vincent (2-4, 2-4). Justin Flack ran for 125 yards and a touchdown for Waynesburg while teammate Dakota Romantino caught eight passes for 132 yards. Chase Nicomatti recorded three sacks for Waynesburg, which held Saint Vincent to 138 yards of offense.
