District college football roundup: Carnegie Mellon completes comeback in OT vs. Washington & Jefferson

Ben Mills and Reece Kolke connected on their third touchdown pass of the game in overtime to lead Carnegie Mellon to a 30-27 comeback victory over Washington & Jefferson in PAC football Saturday afternoon.

Washington & Jefferson (3-1, 3-1), which led 24-5 at the half, took a 27-24 lead when Deven Wyandt made a 29-yard field goal on the first possession of overtime. On CMU’s second play of OT, Mills hit Kolke for the game-winning 20-yard score.

Mills went 13 for 24 for 218 yards and the three touchdowns to Kolke, including an 84-yarder in the third quarter. Kolke caught five passes for 162 yards for No. 15 CMU (4-0, 4-0).

Jacob Pugh was 23 of 41 for 246 yards and two touchdowns for W&J. Owen Petrisek ran for 107 yards and a touchdown and John Peduzzi had eight catches for 112 yards and a score.

Case Western 56, Geneva 14 – Ethan Dahlem caught five passes for 160 yards and three touchdowns to lead Case Western (3-0, 3-0) to a PAC victory. Alex Fromberg was 10 for 14 passing for 185 yards and three scores and Andy Kavcic had 79 yards rushing and two scores for Case Western. Landon Smith had seven carries for 100 yards and a touchdown and added a 60-yard TD catch for Geneva (1-3, 1-3).

Grove City 58, Allegheny 7 – Scott Fraser caught three passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns to help Grove City (3-0, 3-0) to a PAC win. Grove City intercepted five passes, two of which were returned for touchdowns by Shay Aitken and Caleb Brubaker. Logan Pfeuffer was 7 for 21 passing for 212 yards and three touchdowns and Nico Flati ran 10 times for 105 yards for the Wolverines. Ian Durci had seven receptions for 52 yards for Allegheny (1-3, 1-3).

Waynesburg 21, Saint Vincent 7 Zayne Cawley rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns as Waynesburg (1-3, 1-3) beat Saint Vincent (1-3, 1-3) in a PAC game. Samuel Barber completed 13 of 15 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown for Waynesburg. Dontae Sanders ran for 106 yards and Saint Vincent’s only touchdown

Westminster 58, Thiel 6 – Ryan Gomes ran for 60 yards and a touchdown and had a 46-yard TD catch to lead Westminster (3-0, 3-0) to a PAC win. Ty McGowan went 14 of 19 for 139 yards and two scores for Westminster, which outgained Thiel 366-135. Deon Logan ran for 72 yards for Thiel (0-4, 0-4).

Division II

Cal (Pa.) 49, Gannon 7 Davis Black threw for 340 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 50 yards to lead Cal (Pa.) (3-1, 1-0) to the PSAC win over Gannon (0-4, 0-1). D’Avay Johnson caught six passes for 103 yards and a touchdown for the Vulcans while teammate Eric Willis III added seven receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown. Jayden Whitaker threw for 137 yards and scored Gannon’s only touchdown on a 2-yard run in the second quarter. The Vulcans outgained Gannon 485-203.

IUP 31, Clarion 0 – Hunter Karst was 21 for 27 passing for 247 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 61 yards and another score to lead IUP (4-0, 1-0) to a PSAC win. IUP held Clarion (2-3, 0-2) to 114 yards of offense and seven first downs. Kaleb Monaco ran for 71 yards and a touchdown and Maurice Massey caught six balls for 78 yards and a score for IUP.

Slippery Rock 28, Edinboro 23 – Brayden Long threw for 212 yards and two touchdowns as Slippery Rock (4-0, 1-0) took a big early lead and held on for a PSAC win. Idris Lawrence ran 15 times for 119 yards and Kylon Wilson had six catches for 92 yards for SRU, which built a 28-0 lead by the middle of the second quarter. Caron Robinson ran for 52 yards and a touchdown for Edinboro (1-4, 0-1).

Division I FCS

Frostburg State 25, Mercyhurst 24 Myles Fulton threw for 184 yards and three touchdowns and Owen Doyle rushed for 97 yards as Frostburg State (4-0) defeated Mercyhurst (1-4). Adam Urena completed 18 of 23 passes for 228 yards and two touchdowns for Mercyhurst.
