District college football roundup: IUP QB Matthew Rueve throws for 400 yards in win over Seton Hill

Matthew Rueve completed 30 of 37 passes for 400 yards and four touchdowns to lead IUP to a 40-13 victory over Seton Hill in PSAC football Saturday.

Devin Whitlock caught 11 passes for 130 yards for IUP (3-1, 1-0) while teammates Maurice Massey, Leon Parson, Connor Shamany and Cyair Clark all had touchdown receptions. Ritchie McCormack broke up the shutout for Seton Hill (2-3, 0-1) by scoring on a 37-yard fumble return with 6:31 left in the game.

Cal (Pa.) 45, Slippery Rock 38 – Kendrick Agenor ran 12 times for 103 yards, including the go-ahead 14-yard touchdown with a minute left, to lead Cal (Pa.) in a PSAC shootout. Roman Purcell threw for 233 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score, D’Avay Johnson caughts six passes for 134 yards and a score, and Keith Charney had a 40-yard pick-six for the Vulcans (4-0, 1-0). DaOne Owens threw for 253 yards and four touchdowns for Slippery Rock (3-1, 0-1).

Edinboro 21, Clarion 20 – Bo Swartz scored on a 1-yard run with 23 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give Edinboro (2-2, 1-0) the PSAC win over Clarion (4-1, 0-1). Edinboro trailed 20-8 with 4:16 left in the game when Nico Marchitelli hit Jerry DInkins with an 8-yard touchdown pass to pull within five. Marchitelli threw for 222 yards. Davon Jones caught nine passes for 126 yards and a touchdown for Clarion.

Division III

Geneva 28, Allegheny 16 – Caleb Romano threw for 354 yards and four touchdowns and Geneva (2-2, 2-0) scored two touchdowns in the final five minutes of the first half to pull away for a PAC victory. Seth Tyson caught nine passes for 102 yards and a touchdown. Terran Mitchell had four catches for 85 yards and two touchdowns for Allegheny (1-3, 1-1).

Hiram 40, Saint Vincent 38 – Sean Tejeda threw for 399 yards and four touchdowns as Hiram (2-2. 1-1) held off Saint Vincent (1-3, 0-2) in a PAC matchup. Devin Tufts caught 10 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns while Isaiah Livingstone rushed for 95 yards and two TDs. Jake Phillips completed 35 of 54 passes for 403 yards and five touchdowns for Saint Vincent with Chris Downs catching 13 passes for 156 yards and two TDs. Hiram amassed 574 yards of offense while Saint Vincent gained 544 yards.

Washington & Jefferson 34, Grove City 14 – Kellan Stahl threw for 337 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for a score to lead Washington & Jefferson (1-2, 1-0) to a PAC win. Jacob Macosko caught 15 passes for 180 yards for the Presidents. Ian Demeri ran for 142 yards and a score for Grove City (2-2, 1-1).

Waynesburg 45, Thiel 14 – Carson Shriver ran for 161 yards and three touchdowns and Carter Maury went 11 for 13 passing for 198 yards and three more scores to lead Waynesburg (2-2, 2-0) to a PAC victory. Isaac Trout caught three passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns. Deon Logan ran for 146 yards and two scores, including an 85-yard TD run, for Thiel (0-4, 0-2), which was held to 54 passing yards.

Division I FCS

Bucknell 30, Saint Francis 23 – Ralph Rucker IV threw for one touchdown and rushed for another score, Brad Gerken sealed the game with an interception and Bucknell (3-2) defeated Saint Francis (0-5).

Rucker had a 17-yard touchdown connection with TJ Cadden on the opening drive. He led a fourth-quarter drive to reclaim the lead from Saint Francis, finding Josh Gary for a two-point conversion after Tariq Thomas’ 7-yard touchdown run.

Nick Whitfield Jr. was 31 for 44 for 377 yards and a touchdown for the Red Flash.

South Dakota State 51, Mercyhurst 7 – Chase Mason threw three touchdown passes, James Basinger ran for two scores and South Dakota State jumped out early and rolled past Mercyhurst.

No. 2 South Dakota State (4-0) stretched its home winning streak to 32. Mason completed 21-of-29 passes for 321 yards. Mason threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Alex Bullock and then a 19-yarder to Lofton O’Groske to help stake the Jackrabbits to a 17-0 first-quarter lead.

Adam Urena was 12-of-18 passing for 103 yards and he threw one touchdown pass and two interceptions for Mercyhurst (1-4).
