District college football roundup: IUP rallies past Cal (Pa.) for dramatic Coal Bowl win
Dayjur Stewart scored on a 1-yard run with 1:27 left in the game as No. 18 IUP rallied for a 22-21 PSAC victory over Cal (Pa.) in the 13th Coal Bowl on Saturday.
The Vulcans led 21-10 heading into the final quarter before IUP (5-0, 3-0) closed the gap on Mak Seton’s 27-yard scoring pass to Isaiah Houser with 14:23 ramaining. Sexton threw for 305 yards and a touchdown while Hilton Ridley caught eight passes for 161 yards. Noah Mitchell threw for 249 yards and a touchdown for Cal (Pa.) (3-3, 2-1).
Clarion 40, Seton Hill 13 – Clarion (2-4, 1-2) scored twice on special teams, recorded a safety and executed two trick plays for touchdowns en route to a win at Seton Hill (0-6, 0-3) in a PSAC game. Wide receiver Alleyne Corahn threw a pair of touchdown passes to quarterback Zach Benedek. Legend Davis returned a blocked field goal 67 yards for a touchdown and Benedek scored on a 10-yard run on a fake field goal. Eddie Scott threw for 169 yards and two touchdowns for Seton Hill.
Gannon 35, Edinboro 17 – Antonio Wright rushed for 215 yards and three touchdowns and Kody Curtis passed for 159 yards and a pair of scores to pace Gannon (5-1, 3-0) in a PSAC victory over Edinboro (3-3, 1-2). KeJohn Batiste had seven catches for 120 yards and a touchdown and the Golden Knights’ defense had four interceptions. Karamago Sylla had 75 yards rushing and a touchdown for Edinboro.
Slippery Rock 31, Mercyhurst 17 – Noah Grover passed for 203 yards and three touchdowns in a PSAC win for No. 20 Slippery Rock (5-1, 2-1) over Mercyhurst (2-4, 0-3). Max Maciejewski, Kyle Sheets and Jawon Hall caught touchdown passes. Hall also returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown. Joe Carter has 248 yards passing, a touchdown and two interceptions and Dustin Shoaf scored on a 1-yard run for Merychurst.

Carnegie Mellon 27, Waynesburg 20 – Ben Mills hit Dominic Voiland with a 10-yard touchdown pass with 1:09 remaining in the fourth quarter to give No. 18 Carnegie Mellon (6-0, 4-0) the PAC win at Waynesburg (2-3, 1-2). Mills threw for 190 yards and two touchdowns while teammate Willem Bouma rushed for 147 yards and a TD. Waynesburg’s Tyler Raines threw for 274 yards and two touchdowns to Dakota Romantino, who caught six passes for 213 yards.
Case Western 45, Saint Vincent 21 – Riley Knurek caught seven passes for 124 yards as Case Western (4-2, 3-1) beat Saint Vincent (1-4, 1-2) in a PAC contest. Drew Saxton tossed for 236 yards while Antonio Orsini ran for 89 yards and three touchdowns. Brady Walker paced Saint Vincent with 268 passing yards and a touchdown to Molayo Irefin, who had five receptions for 107 yards.
Geneva 35, Allegheny 21 – Brutus Ogilvie rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown to help Geneva (1-4, 1-2) earn its first win of the season in PAC action. Logan Kent had 100 yards rushing and a touchdown and Hilton McClain Jr. caught five passes for 149 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Tre Worship had 126 yards rushing and a touchdown for Allegheny (2-4, 1-3) and Declan O’Brien had seven receptions for 101 yards and two touchdowns.
Grove City 55, Bethany 7 – Logan Pfeuffer threw for 209 yards and three touchdowns as Grove City (5-1, 4-0) rolled past Bethany (1-4, 0-4) in PAC play. Scott Fraser had five receptions for 98 yards and a touchdown and Ian Demeri had 72 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns. DeVaughn McWhorter caught 11 passes for 172 yards and a touchdown for Bethany.
Washington & Jefferson 17, Westminster 14 – John O’Rourke caught a pair of touchdown passes in a 17-point fourth quarter for Washington & Jefferson (5-1, 3-1) in a PAC win. O’Rourke’s first touchdown came on a 8-yard pass from Jacob Pugh. The second came on a double-pass trick play where he caught a 24-yard pass from wide receiver John Peduzzi. Brice Butler had a 77-yard interception return for a touchdown for Westminster (2-3, 2-2) and Tyler McGowan connected with Ryan Gomes on a 7-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.
