District college football roundup: IUP shocks No. 6 Slippery Rock

Harry Woodbery threw for 312 yards and five touchdowns to lead IUP to a 48-21 upset of No. 6 Slippery Rock in PSAC football Saturday.

Apollo-Ridge grad Duane Brown caught six passes for 136 yards and a touchdown while teammate Irvin Charles added five receptions for 64 yards and three TDs. Charles Ingram had two interceptions for IUP (5-1, 4-0), which forced four turnovers. Andrew Koester tossed for 228 yards and two touchdowns for Slippery Rock (6-1, 3-1), which saw a 19-game PSAC winning streak dating to 2017 snapped.

Mercyhurst 26, Edinboro 20 (OT) — Joe Carter threw for 310 yards and three touchdowns and scored the game-winning points on a quarterback sneak in overtime to lead Mercyhurst (2-5, 1-3) to the PSAC win over Edinboro (1-4, 1-4). Cameron Barmore caught six passes for 106 yards and a touchdown for Mercyhurst. Edinboro’s Isaac Bernard threw for 265 yards and two touchdowns, including a 36-yard scoring pass to Jon Long with 51 seconds left in the fourth quarter that sent the game to overtime.

Gannon 14, Seton Hill 10 — A Melvin Blanks one yard touchdown run in the final minute of the third quarter proved to be the difference as Gannon (3-4, 2-2) topped Seton Hill (3-4, 1-3) in PSAC action. Jack McCormick hit Taro Gaither with a 12 yard touchdown pass with 4:54 remaining in the third quarter to give the Griffins a 10-7 lead. McCormick passed for 171 yards, but was intercepted twice. The Golden Knights defense forced three turnovers.Blanks had 195 yards rushing. Logan Wiland rushed for 104 yards for the Griffins.

Division I FCS

Bryant 18, St. Francis (Pa.) 17 — Zevi Eckhaus connected with Dan Adeboboye on a 5-yard touchdown pass with 32 seconds remaining to propel Bryant (4-3, 2-1) to a comeback win over St. Francis (Pa.) (3-4, 2-1). The Red Flash led 14-3 entering the fourth quarter. Marques DeShields had a 98-yard touchdown run to set a record for longest scoring play in St. Francis history. DeShields rushed for 140 yards. Justin Sliwoski passed for 123 yards, including a two yard touchdown pass to Kahtero Summers.

Division III

Allegheny 38, Hiram 13 — Jack Johnson threw for 242 yards and three touchdowns to lead Allegheny to the NCAC win at Hiram. Mark Torsello and Declan O’Brien only caught one pass each, but they were for touchdowns of 59 and 48 yards. Trey DeCicco added a 28-yard touchdown reception for the Gators while Tre Worship paced Allegheny’s ground game with 71 rushing yards and a TD.

Grove City 41, St. Vincent 29 — Clayton Parrish rushed for 143 yards and four touchdowns—three in the fourth quarter—to lead Grove City (6-1, 5-1) to the PAC win at Saint Vincent (3-3, 2-3). Cody Gustafson caught eight passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns for Grove City, which trailed by three points at halftime. Brady Walker threw for 235 yards and a touchdown and ran for another TD to lead Saint Vincent.

Westminster 66, Waynesburg 14 — Luca Botti returned the second-half kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown as Westminster (4-2, 4-1) scored 35 points in the third quarter in its PAC win over Waynesburg (1-5, 1-4). Tylon Eilam caught five passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns, Ryan Gomes ran for 99 yards and a TD, and Vincent Giles rushed for two touchdowns for Westminster.
