District college football roundup: IUP takes it to Shippensburg

Mak Sexton threw for 339 yards and two touchdowns as IUP racked up 552 yards of offense in a 44-21 win over Shippensburg (1-2) on Saturday.

Apollo-Ridge grad Duane Brown caught eight passes for 160 yards for IUP (2-0) while teammate Hilton Ridley added five receptions for 126 yards and two touchdowns. Dayjur Stewart added 108 rushing yards and two touchdowns for IUP.

Shepherd 26, Cal (Pa.) 23 — Jacob Haynie kicked a 23-yard field goal in overtime, following his 42-yard field goal at the end of regulation, as No. 4 Shepherd (3-0) slipped past Cal (Pa.) (1-2). Tyson Bagent threw for 490 yards and three touchdowns for Shepherd, including one to Marlon Cook, who had eight receptions for 168 yards. Noah Mitchell threw for 252 yards and two touchdowns, both to JaQuae Jackson, who had 12 receptions for 170 yards.

Edinboro 23, Bloomsburg 20 — Keon Anderson scored on a 2-yard run in overtime to give Edinboro (2-1) the win over Bloomsburg (1-2). Brendan McGonigle earlier kicked a 37-yard field goal during Bloomsburg’s overtime possession. Isaac Bernard completed 30 of 47 passes for 290 yards and a touchdown for the Fighting Scots while defensively, Wilfredo Diaz recorded nine tackles, one sack, one interception and one fumble recovery.

Kutztown 50, Mercyhurst 31 — Darryl Davis-McNeil ran for 120 yards and four touchdowns as Kutztown (2-1) defeated Mercyhurst (2-1). Jordan Davis added 73 rushing yards and two touchdowns, both in Kutztown’s 26-point third quarter. Michael Lowery threw for 109 yards and a touchdown and ran for another TD for Mercyhurst, which led at halftime, 24-17.

Slippery Rock 45, Millersville 14 — Noah Grover threw for 289 yards and four touchdowns as No. 11 Slippery Rock (3-0) amassed 573 yards of offense in its win at Millersville (0-3). Kyle Sheets caught eight passes for 110 yards and a touchdown while Chris D’Or ran for 116 yards. Brandon Tuck-Hayden had an interception and a sack for Slippery Rock’s defense, which limited Millersville to 202 yards and eight first downs.

West Chester 29, Gannon 23 — Ja’Den McKenzie rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns to lead West Chester (2-1) to victory over Gannon (2-1). Zach Liggitt had two sacks and two forced fumbles for West Chester, which recorded six sacks overall. Kory Kurtis threw for 362 yards and two touchdowns for Gannon while Sam East caught eight passes for 178 yards and KeJohn Batiste added seven catches for 108 yards and a touchdown.

Division III

Case Western 14, Washington & Jefferson 0 – Ethan Dahlem caught a game-winning 59-yard touchdown pass from Drew Saxton with 4:21 to play to lead Case Western (2-1, 1-0) to a PAC victory. Dahlem, an Upper St. Clair grad, had seven catches for 108 yards. Saxton was 22 of 32 for 297 yards and two scores. Deven Wyandt made a 27-yard field goal with 5:25 to go to give Washington & Jefferson (2-1, 0-1) a 10-7 lead. Colton Jones was 24 for 41 for 227 yards and a score, Anthony Rosati caught eight passes for 103 yards, and Justin Huss ran 11 times for 56 yards for W&J.

Westminster 42, Allegheny 14 – Cole Konieczka went 23 for 36 for 327 yards and three touchdowns to power Westminster (2-1, 2-0) to a PAC victory. Tylon Eliam caught seven passes for 139 yards and two scores, Walter Phillips had seven carries for 99 yards and a touchdown, and Ryan Gomes added 13 carries for 79 yards and a score for the Titans. Antwan Brown had five carries for 63 yards and a TD for Allegheny (1-2, 0-1).

East Stroudsburg 22, Seton Hill 7 — Devin Bartholomew kicked five field goals as East Stroudsburg (1-2) defeated Seton Hill (0-3). Jake Cirillo threw for 210 yards and a touchdown to pace East Stroudsburg’s offense. Ky’Ron Craggette ran for 100 yards and a 75-yard touchdown for East Stroudsburg.

Carnegie Mellon 40, Grove City 33 — Despite 536 yards of offense, four interceptions sank Grove City (2-1) in its loss at No. 20 Carnegie Mellon (3-0). Ben Mills threw for 257 yards and three touchdowns for the Tartans while defensively, Ben Coyne had nine tackles, two sacks and an interception. Logan Pfeuffer threw for 327 yards and three touchdowns for Grove City while Scott Fraser caught 10 passes for 209 yards and a TD.

Waynesburg 37, Geneva 30 — Justin Flack ran for 170 yards and two touchdowns as Waynesburg (2-1, 1-0) defeated Geneva (0-3, 0-1) in PAC play. Josh Syster ran for 113 yards for Geneva.

Saint Vincent 24, Thiel 16 — D.J. Gray rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown to lead Saint Vincent (1-2, 1-0) to the PAC win over Thiel (0-3, 0-1). Molayo Irefin had a 4-yard touchdown run and a 9-yard touchdown catch for the Bearcats, who held Thiel to 287 yards of offense and forced two turnovers. Owen Trumbull passed for 212 yards for Thiel.

Division I FCS

St. Francis (Pa.) 27, Wagner 7 – Freshman Makai Jackson had 11 catches for 117 yards and a touchdown and a 79-yard kickoff return for a score to lead St. Francis (1-2, 1-0) past Wagner (0-3, 0-1) in its Northeast Conference opener. Cole Doyle went 12 for 18 for 122 yards and a score for the Red Flash. Justin Sliwoski was 7 for 13 for 59 yards. St. Francis outgained Wagner, 370-232.
