District college football roundup: IUP too much for Cal (Pa.)

Matthew Rueve threw for 260 yards and two touchdowns to lead IUP to a 38-30 victory over Cal (Pa.) in PSAC football Saturday afternoon.

Devin Whitlock caught nine passes for 69 yards and two touchdowns and Matthew Rueve ran 14 times for 47 yards and two scores for IUP (5-2, 3-1). Deontae Williams had nine catches for 108 yards and a 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown for Cal (5-3, 2-3).

Clarion 23, Seton Hill 17 – Colt Egan caught four passes for 142 yards, including an 81-yard touchdown, to lead Clarion (6-2, 2-2) to a PSAC victory. Anthony Guercio threw for 93 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions and ran 17 times for 88 yards for the Golden Eagles. Quarterbacks Boden St. Marie combined for 264 yards and one interception in the air and 73 yards and two touchdowns on the ground for Seton Hill (4-5, 2-4). Jayden Llanis caught eight passes for 117 yards for the Griffins.

Edinboro 41, Gannon 20 – Nico Marchitelli threw for 154 yards and two touchdowns to Jaret Frantz as Edinboro beat Gannon in PSAC play. Fratz caught four passes for 80 yards while teammate Caron Robinson ran for 96 yards and a touchdown. Ty Hurst tossed for 204 yards and two touchdowns for Gannon and Tristen Kenan rushed for 100 yards.

Division III

Allegheny 28, Hiram 13 – Carson Colucci and Nick Barker combined to throw for 333 yards and three touchdowns to lead Allegheny (3-5, 3-3) to a PAC victory. Davin Larry caught eight passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns for the Gators. Jordan Stapleton caught 10 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown for Hiram (3-4, 2-3).

Geneva 75, Bethany 28 – Caleb Romano threw for 475 yards and six touchdowns and Keaton Baker caught 12 passes for 219 yards and two scores as Geneva (5-3, 5-1) rolled to a PAC victory. Brett Phillips threw for 295 yards and four touchdowns for Bethany (0-7, 0-5).

Grove City 14, Westminster 7 – Despite having only 141 total yards and six first downs, Grove City (5-2, 4-1) defeated Westminster (4-2, 3-2) in a PAC matchup. Chase Rankin ran for 49 yards and the game-winning touchdown with 6:49 left in the fourth quarter. Seth McGroerty caught four passes and a touchdown for Grove City while defensively, Keagan Fraser had two interceptions. Quentin Goode threw for 196 yards and a touchdown for Westminster.

Muhlenberg 27, Carnegie Mellon 23 – Matthew Manning scored on a 2-yard run with 1:57 left in the game as Muhlenberg (6-1, 3-1) rallied to defeat No. 16 Carnegie Mellon (4-3, 2-2) in Centennial Conference play. Manning ran for 39 yards and two touchdowns as Muhlenberg scored 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to overcome a 23-7 deficit. Muhlenberg’s Luke Spang threw for 227 yards and rushed for 49 yards and two touchdowns. Joey McGinnis IV threw for 297 yards and a touchdown and ran for 43 yards and a TD for the Tartans.

Washington & Jefferson 56, Waynesburg 0 – Kellan Stahl completed 27 of 28 passes for 408 yards and five touchdowns to lead Washington & Jefferson (5-2, 5-0) past Waynesburg (2-6, 2-4) in PAC play. Colin Payne came off the bench to complete all five of his passes for 40 yards and one touchdown, leaving the Presidents 32 of 33 passing for the day. Jacob Macosko caught six passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns for Washington & Jefferson, which outgained Waynesburg 605-81. Joey DeSabato added five receptions for 95 yards and two touchdowns and John Peduzzi caught six passes for 93 yards and a TD.

Division I FCS

Stonehill 22, Mercyhurst 15 – Jack O’Connell threw two touchdown passes and Domenic Scalese kicked three field goals as Stonehill (3-5, 2-1) defeated Mercyhurst (3-6, 2-2) in the NEC. O’Connell’s TD passes — 23 yards to Torance Washington Jr. and 14 yards to Zachary Kim — put Stonehill up 13-0 in the first quarter. Mercyhurst got a 6-yard touchdown pass from Adam Urena to Joe Kerbacher with 51 seconds left, but Stonehill recovered the ensuing onside kick. Urena was 29-for-41 passing for 255 yards with two touchdowns for the Lakers (3-6, 2-2).
