District college football roundup: No. 15 Slippery Rock knocks off No. 3 Cal (Pa.)
Noah Grover threw for 466 yards and four touchdowns as No. 15 Slippery Rock jumped out to an early three-touchdown lead and upset No. 3 California, 38-26, in PSAC play Saturday afternoon.
Cinque Sweeting caught seven passes for 177 yards and a touchdown for Slippery Rock (9-1, 6-1) while Jermaine Wynn Jr. added 10 receptions for 169 yards and two TDs. Noah Mitchell threw for 230 yards and two touchdowns for the Vulcans (8-1, 5-1).
Edinboro 17, Clarion 10 — Despite 179 rushing yards from Khalil Owens, Clarion (0-9, 0-6) fell to Edinboro (3-6, 3-4) in a PSAC matchup. Anfreenee Williams ran for 55 yards and a touchdown to start the fourth quarter for Edinboro while Isaac Bernard threw for 239 yards and one TD. Defensively, Tarique Smith recorded seven tackles and two sacks for the Fighting Scots. Legend Davis had two interceptions for Clarion.
Mercyhurst 24, Gannon 13 — David Alize ran for 114 yards and three touchdowns to lead Mercyhurst (4-6, 3-4) to the PSAC victory over Gannon (4-6, 3-4). Keith Brickman had an interception, a forced fumble and broke up three passes for Mercyhurst, which picked off three passes overall. Kory Curtis tossed for 195 yards and a touchdown for Gannon.
IUP 38, Seton Hill 3 — Harry Woodberry threw for 220 yards and three touchdowns — all to Irvin Charles and Duane Brown — as IUP (6-3, 5-2) defeated Seton Hill (4-6, 2-5) in PSAC play. Charles caught two passes for 155 yards and one touchdown and Brown had six receptions for 65 yards and two TDs. Dayjur Stewart added 137 rushing yards and a touchdown for IUP. Jake McCormick threw for 129 yards in the loss.

Sacred Heart 14, St. Francis (Pa.) 13 — Marquez McCray threw two touchdown passes and Sacred Heart held on to top St. Francis (Pa.).McCray, who was 14-of-16 passing for 224 yards, found Rob DiNota for a 41-yard score and Naseim Brantley for 23 yards in the second quarter and that was enough for the defense of the Pioneers (6-3, 4-1 Northeast Conference). The Red Flash (4-5, 3-1) missed a 42-yard field goal on the last play of the game. St. Francis opened the scoring when Raymond Crittenden returned a block punt 25 yards late in the first quarter.

Carnegie Mellon 27, Washington & Jefferson 11 — Robert Coury recorded 12 tackles and 2½ sacks as Carnegie Mellon (7-2, 6-2) had nine sacks in its PAC win over No. 22 Washington & Jefferson (7-2, 6-2). Tre Vasiliadis ran for 118 yards and a touchdown for the Tartans, who won their sixth straight game and could claim a share of the PAC title with a win next week against Case Western. Carnegie Mellon’s Ben Mills threw for 184 yards and two touchdowns to Kris Hughes, who caught six passes for 125 yards. Justin Heacock threw for 141 yards and the Presidents’ only touchdown.
Case Western 35, Grove City 21 — Drew Saxton threw for 249 yards and three touchdowns as Case Western (6-3, 5-3) defeated Grove City (6-3, 5-3) in PAC play. Antonio Orsini ran for 124 yards and one touchdown for Case Western while Lucas DeCaro had five receptions for 102 yards and a TD. Grove City’s Josh Ehst threw for 308 yards and a 42-yard touchdown to Scott Fraser, who had 12 receptions for 145 yards.
Geneva 49, Thiel 0 — In PAC play, Kaden Romero had a sack, interception and fumble recovery as Geneva’s defense limited Thiel to 97 yards. Amos Luptak completed all four of his passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 80 yards and two TDs. Brutus Ogilvie added 81 rushing yards and 45 passing yards and a touchdown for Geneva (4-5, 4-4), which led at halftime, 35-0.
Waynesburg 31, Bethany 7 — Nick Hall rushed for 165 yards and two touchdowns to lead Waynesburg (2-7, 2-6) to the PAC win against Bethany (1-8, 1-7). Justin Flack added 91 rushing yards and a touchdown for Waynesburg.
Westminster 41, Saint Vincent 6 — Senior defensive lineman Brayden Thimons returned an interception 27 yards for a touchdown, recorded a sack and caught a 9-yard scoring pass from Cole Konieczka as Westminster (7-2, 7-1) beat Saint Vincent (4-5, 3-5) in a PAC matchup. Konieczka threw for 145 yards and two touchdowns and Ryan Gomes rushed for 123 yards and one TD. Westminster held Saint Vincent to four rushing yards. Devin Gleason tossed for 101 yards for the Bearcats.
Wooster 59, Allegheny 41 — Mateo Renteria threw for 506 yards and six touchdowns to lead Wooster (6-3, 5-3) over Allegheny (2-7, 1-7) in an NCAC matchup that featured over 1,100 yards of offense. Wooster’s Bryant Douglas II caught 13 passes for 200 yards and a touchdown while teammates Carter Warstler and Cole Hissong added 114 and 103 receiving yards and two TDs each. The Gators’ Jack Johnson threw for 410 yards and three touchdowns to Declan O’Brien, who finished with 10 receptions for 210 yards. Wooster totaled 601 yards of offense to Allegheny’s 518 yards.
