District college football roundup: Saint Vincent picks up 1st win of season

Austin Slye threw for 164 yards and a touchdown to lead Saint Vincent to a 23-19 victory over Allegheny in PAC football Saturday afternoon.

Ty Martin ran for 96 yards and Kaelib McElroy caught five passes for 74 yards and a score for the Bearcats (1-2, 1-2). Jack Johnson tossed for 134 yards and a touchdown for Allegheny (1-2, 1-2).

The game got off to a wild start when, less than three minutes into the first quarter, Allegheny’s David Babb returned a blocked field goal 68 yards for a touchdown, and on the ensuing extra point, Saint Vincent’s Ethan Facey returned a blocked kick 97 yards for two points.

Carnegie Mellon 41, Waynesburg 10 – Ben Mills threw for 175 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 39 yards as No. 15 Carnegie Mellon (3-0, 3-0) beat Waynesburg (0-3, 0-3) in PAC play. Kaveh Wojtowich had five receptions for 75 yards for the Tartans while teammate Ethan Reifer caught five passes for 42 yards and a touchdown.

Grove City 27, Case Western 24 (OT) – Scott Fraser caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Logan Pfeuffer on a second down play in overtime to lead Grove City (3-0, 3-0) to a PAC win. Case Western (1-1, 1-1) kicked a 37-yard field goal on its possession in OT. Nico Flati ran 33 times for 128 yards and a touchdown for Grove City. Clayton Parrish scored two touchdowns on the ground. Alex Fromberg went 16 for 22 for 146 yards and two touchdowns through the air and added 97 yards on 15 carries on the ground for Case Western.

Washington & Jefferson 48, Westminster 3 – In PAC play, Zach Cernuto scored three first-half touchdowns — two on 1-yard runs and one on a 5-yard pass from Jacob Pugh — as Washington & Jefferson (3-0, 3-0) downed Westminster (1-2, 1-2). Pugh threw for 242 yards and two touchdowns, Owen Petrisek rushed for 87 yards and two TDs and Anthony Rosati caught four passes for 95 yards.

Division I FCS

Delaware 42, St. Francis (Pa.) 14 – Ryan O’Connor went 13 for 24 for 192 yards and three touchdowns to lead No. 19 Delaware (2-1). Marcus Yarns, who had a 66-yard touchdown run last week against Penn State, ran 12 times for 139 yards and a score. Cole Doyle was 12 for 21 for 188 yards and a score for St. Francis (0-3). Casey McKinney caught four balls for 61 yards and a touchdown.

Division II

East Stroudsburg 55, Seton Hill 21 – Quarterback Charlie McKee scored on touchdown runs of 69 yards and 10 yards in the second quarter as East Stroudsburg (3-0) pulled away for a PSAC crossover win. McKee was 11 for 17 for 181 yards and a touchdown through the air and had 72 yards on the ground. Tyriq Lewis ran for 144 yards for ESU. Hayden Teska was 18 for 38 for 222 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions for Seton Hill (1-2). Mark Bails Jr. caught nine passes for 151 yards and two scores.

Edinboro 23, Bloomsburg 13 – Mike Watkins had nine receptions for 108 yards and a touchdown to lead Edinboro (1-2) past Bloomsburg (1-2). Brian Robel rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown and Isaac Bernard passed for 294 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Bernard hit Watkins for a 31-yard score in the fourth to put the game away.

IUP 49, Shippensburg 14 – Hunter Karst had 199 yards passing and five total touchdowns as IUP (2-1) raced past Shippensburg (0-3). Karst threw two touchdown passes to Quinn Zinobile and Hilton Ridley and rushed for a 2-yard score. Jay Holmes scooped a fumble and ran 31 yards for a touchdown.

Kutztown 47, Mercyhurst 14 – Judd Novak threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns as Kutztown (1-2) jumped to a 37-0 halftime lead on the way to defeating Mercyhurst (1-2). Mekhi Gibson caught four passes for 157 yards and a touchdown for Kutztown while Adam Urena tossed for 279 yards and two touchdowns to pace Mercyhurst’s offense.

Lock Haven 21, Clarion 20 – Danny Sanchez hit Chris Hicks with a 31-yard touchdown pass with seven seconds left in the game as Lock Haven (2-1) defeated Clarion (1-2). Sanchez threw for 260 yards and two touchdowns while Hicks caught five passes for 59 yards. Chris Collins led Lock Haven’s ground game with 169 rushing yards and a touchdown. Anthony Guerico ran for 105 yards and a touchdown for Clarion.

Shepherd 44, Cal (Pa.) 34 – Seth Morgan threw for 326 yards and four touchdowns to lead No. 14 Shepherd (3-0) to victory at Cal (Pa.). Cameron Dorner had nine receptions for 124 yards and two touchdowns Shepherd, which trailed 21-17 at halftime. Davis Black threw for 411 yards and four touchdowns for the Vulcans (1-1) while teammate Eric Willis III caught six passes for 274 yards and two TDs.

Slippery Rock 42, Millersville 21 – Brayden Lewis was 31 for 43 for 390 yards and five touchdowns and also ran for a score as No. 13 Slippery Rock (3-0) rallied from a 21-7 deficit for a PSAC crossover win. Kyle Sheets caught 12 passes for 210 yards and three TDs for SRU. Jaquan Howard had 65 yards rushing and a touchdown for Millersville (2-1).

West Chester 38, Gannon 31 – Trey Blair scored on a 3-yard run with 1:26 to lead West Chester (2-1) to a PSAC crossover win. Rahiem Bowens caught five passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns and had a 39-yard catch on the winning drive. Nate Mikell went 17 for 34 for 230 yards, a touchdown and an interception for Gannon (0-3).
