District college football roundup: Seton Hill slams Edinboro for 1st win

Ky’Ron Craggette ran for 94 yards and two touchdowns as Seton Hill rolled to a 45-14 victory over Edinboro in PSAC football Saturday afternoon, picking up its first victory of the year.

Taz Morris ran for 98 yards and a touchdown, and Damonte Pratt returned an interception 35 yards for a score for Seton Hill (1-8, 1-5), which scored 31 points in the second half. Thaddeus Standfield had four catches for 73 yards and a touchdown for Edinboro (4-5, 2-4).

Cal (Pa.) 44, Mercyhurst 20 — Mylique McGriff and Davonte Williams ran for 115 and 112 yards, respectively, and a touchdown each as Cal (Pa.) (5-4, 4-2) defeated Mercyhurst (2-7, 0-6) in a PSAC contest. Noah Mitchell added 210 passing yards and a touchdown for Cal. Mercyhurst’s Brian Alsobrooks threw for 226 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Cameron Barmore, who had five receptions for 117 yards.

Slippery Rock 31, Clarion 0 — Noah Grover completed 27 of 34 passes for 440 yards and three touchdowns to lead No. 13 Slippery Rock (8-1, 5-1) to a PSAC win at Clarion (3-6, 2-4). Kyle Sheets caught nine passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns for Slippery Rock, which totaled 533 yards of offense.

Gannon 43, IUP 36 — Kory Curtis threw for 342 yards and four touchdowns and ran for two TDs as Gannon (7-2, 5-1) upset No. 11 IUP (7-1, 5-1) in PSAC play. Branse Stanley caught six passes for 140 yards and a touchdown, and KeJohn Batiste added seven receptions for 109 yards and a TD. Mak Sexton tossed for 300 yards and four touchdowns for IUP. Duane Brown caught 10 passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.

Division III

Carnegie Mellon 30, Saint Vincent 12 — Adrian Williams had three of No. 20 Carnegie Mellon’s six interceptions as the Tartans defeated Saint Vincent (3-5, 3-3) in PAC play. Ben Mills threw for 195 yards and two touchdowns for Carnegie Mellon (9-0, 7-0), and Cole Hanna added three field goals.

Case Western 54, Allegheny 7 — Drew Saxton threw for 246 yards and four touchdowns to power Case Western (6-2, 5-1) to a PAC victory. Ethan Dahlem caught three passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns, and Noah Coyne had six grabs for 71 yards and two more scores. Jack Johnson threw a 75-yard TD pass to Hunter Lohr for Allegheny (2-7, 1-6). Case Western held Allegheny to 1 rushing yard.

Washington & Jefferson 55, Thiel 0 — Tanner Volpatti had a 29-yard interception return for a touchdown, and Brandon Brown scored on a blocked punt as Washington & Jefferson (5-2, 3-2) rolled to a PAC victory. W&J held Thiel (1-6, 1-4) to 127 yards of offense, including 9 yards on the ground. Jacob Pugh threw for 189 yards and a touchdown and ran for two more scores.

Westminster 30, Waynesburg 10 — Tyler McGowan threw for 175 yards and three touchdowns to lead Westminster (5-3, 4-2) to the PAC win at Waynesburg (4-4, 3-3). Ryan Gomes added 87 rushing yards for the Titans. Dakota Romantino caught seven passes for 86 yards to pace Waynesburg’s offense.

Division I FCS

St. Francis (Pa.) 44, Sacred Heart 14 — Cole Doyle tied a school record with five touchdowns passes and ran for another score to lead St. Francis (Pa.) to a Northeast Conference win. Doyle opened the scoring with a 34-yard touchdown run then threw four of his TD passes as the Red Flash (6-2, 5-0) took a 34-7 halftime lead.

Sacred Heart (4-4, 2-2) entered as one of the top passing defenses in FCS, ranking third in yards allowed (119.4), but Doyle lit up the Pioneers, completing 22 of 28 passes for 264 yards. QuaSean Holmes had 168 yards rushing on 13 carries.

Malik Grant scored both Sacred Heart touchdowns, one receiving and one rushing. He had 104 yards rushing on 19 carries. The victory keeps St. Francis tied with Merrimack for first place in the NEC.
