District college football roundup: Slippery Rock rolls past Seton Hill
Andrew Koester had a big game, throwing for 323 yards on 18 of 31 passing with five touchdowns, to lead Slippery Rock (4-0, 1-0) to a 41-17 victory over Seton Hill (2-2, 0-0) on Saturday.
Koester found Jermaine Wynn Jr. five times for 111 yards and two touchdowns and Henry Litwin nine times for 148 yards and three scores. Peyton Remish had a pick-six at the end of the third quarter to ice it for Slippery Rock. Logan Wiland rushed for Seton Hill’s two touchdowns and totaled 92 yards on 22 carries.
Cal (Pa.) 20, Edinboro 12 — Noah Mitchell had touchdown tosses of 26 of 40 yards among his 263 passing yards as Cal (Pa.) (4-0, 1-0) remained unbeaten against Edinboro (0-3, 0-1). The Vulcans opened the scoring by recording a safety eight seconds into the game and scored their final points on a 98-yard PAT return. Tyson Hill caught eight passes for 67 yards and Ian Edenfield had six catches for 66 yards for Cal (Pa.). Anthony Beitko made field goals from 25, 35, and 48 yards. The Cal defense picked off Edinboro quarterback Tannor Watson twice and held him to 58 yards and six completions on 21 attempts.
Gannon 56, Clarion 21 — In PSAC play, Kory Curtis threw for 241 yards and four touchdowns to lead Gannon (2-2, 1-0) over Clarion (0-4, 0-1). Gannon jumped to a 28-0 lead early in the second quarter following Keith Thompson’s 99-yard fumble return. Melvin Blanks rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Golden Knights’ running game. Taylor Eggers tossed for 189 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.
IUP 48, Mercyhurst 13 — Harry Woodbery threw for 146 yards and four touchdowns to lead IUP (2-1, 2-1) over Mercyhurst (1-3, 0-1). IUP scored on a 7-yard pass from Woodbery to Cam Suman halfway through the first quarter for a 14-7 lead the Crimson Hawks did not give up. Dayjure Stewart led the Hawks on the ground with 98 yards on 18 carries and Irvin Charles had 44 yards on two receptions. Michael Lowery threw for 135 yards and a touchdown on 18 of 29 passing for Mercyhurst and Cameron Barmore had 45 yards on three receptions.
Division III
Carnegie Mellon 39, Waynesburg 3 – Carnegie Mellon (2-2, 2-1) forced five turnovers, including two interceptions by Sean Knight, in a PAC victory over Waynesburg (1-3, 1-2). Moon grad Logan Young had a 47-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Tre Vasiliadis ran 11 times for 93 yards and a touchdown for CMU. Zachary Hamilton and quarterback Ben Mills also scored on the ground. Alex Javier had six catches for 97 yards. Trenton Kerns had seven catches for 97 yards for Waynesburg.
Geneva 42, Bethany 7 – Quaker Valley grad Amos Luptak scored on touchdown runs of 32 and 54 yards to lead Geneva (2-2, 2-1) to a convincing win over Bethany (0-4, 0-3). Tyler Lipiatt and Jaeden Zuzak, a freshman from California High School, also scored rushing touchdowns. Geneva also scored on a blocked punt in the end zone and a 61-yard interception return by Jawan Showers.
Ohio Wesleyan 28, Allegheny 19 — Allegheny (0-3, 1-3) quarterback Jack Johnson threw for 243 yards with two touchdowns to Shane Cafadi and Mark Torsello but had two interceptions in a loss to Ohio Wesleyan (3-0, 4-0). Running back Tre Worship ran for 111 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown and fellow running back Kyrie Miller ran for 93 yards on 14 carries for the Gators. Ohio Wesleyan had a safety and a blocked field goal returned for a touchdown to cut the Gators lead to 13-11 at halftime. Kaden Buza threw a touchdown and Trey Dixon ran in another for Ohio Wesleyan.
Saint Vincent 41, Thiel 7 – Brady Walker hit on 15 of 22 passes for 275 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions as Saint Vincent (2-1, 1-1) rolled to a 41-7 victory over Thiel (0-4, 0-3). Keith Kalp caught four passes for 117 yards and a touchdown and Molayo Irefin had six grabs for 108 yards and a score to go with a 27-yard rushing TD. Billy Beck ran for two scores. Saint Vincent held Thiel to 94 yards rushing and 97 yards passing. Joanes Polynice led the team with 12 tackles.
Washington & Jefferson 37, Case Western 14 – Payton Skalos caught five passes for 65 yards and two touchdowns, including a 7-yard scoring pass with four seconds left in the first half that gave Washington & Jefferson (4-0, 3-0) the lead for good. Justin Heacock went 20 for 33 passing for 204 yards and three touchdowns. Joey Koroly ran 25 times for 114 yards and two scores. Drew Saxton was 21 of 44 for 195 yards and a touchdown for Case Western (2-2, 1-2).
Westminster 33, Grove City 32 — Denny Dennison caught a 26-yard scoring pass from Cole Konieczk with 1:14 left in the game to cap Westminster’s comeback win over Grove City (3-1, 2-1) in the PAC. Konieczka threw for 267 yards and three touchdowns while Tylon Eilam caught eight passes for 126 yards and one TD for Westminster (2-1, 2-0), which trailed 20-7 at halftime. Josh Ehst threw for 262 yards and three touchdowns and Cody Gustafson caught 13 passes for 132 yards and two TDs for Grove City.

Norfolk State 28, St. Francis (Pa.) 16 — Jyron Russell threw for 154 yards with a touchdown and an interception and Marques DeSheilds ran for 73 yards on nine carries and caught five passes for 102 yards as St. Francis (Pa.) (1-3) fell to Norfolk State (2-2). Alex Schmoke made a 45-yard field goal as The Red Flash entered halftime up 10-7. Norfolk State quarterback Juwan Carter had one rushing and one passing touchdown as Norfolk State took the lead in the second half. St. Francis cut it to 21-16 on a Justin Sliwoski touchdown pass to Brandan Lisenby, but Norfolk sealed the victory with a touchdown with 39 seconds left.
