District college football roundup: Slippery Rock rolls past Seton Hill

Noah Grover was 21 for 37 passing for 294 yards and a touchdown and also ran for a score to lead Slippery Rock to a 30-2 victory over Seton Hill in the PSAC opener for both teams Saturday.

Slippery Rock (4-0, 1-0) held Seton Hill (0-4, 0-1) to 106 yards of offense and recorded six sacks. The Griffins (0-4, 0-1) took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter on a sack by Jahiem Thomas in the end zone.

Cal (Pa.) 49, Edinboro 7 — Eric McKan III ran for 117 yards and three touchdowns as Cal (Pa.) (2-2, 1-0) opened PSAC play with the win over Edinboro (2-2, 0-1). Davonte Williams added 162 rushing yards and a touchdown for Cal (Pa.), which outgained Edinboro, 500-177.

Gannon 47, Clarion 24 — Kory Curtis threw for 418 yards and three touchdowns as Gannon (3-1, 1-0) piled up 629 yards of offense in its PSAC win at Clarion (1-3, 0-1). Melvin Blanks ran for 112 yards and three touchdowns for Gannon. Clarion’s Zach Benedek tossed for 188 yards and a touchdown to Corahn Alleyne.

IUP 33, Mercyhurst 16 – Duane Brown caught six passes for 47 yards and three touchdowns and Dayjure Stewart ran 32 times for 256 yards and another score to lead IUP (3-0, 1-0) to victory in its PSAC opener. Michael Lowery was 16 for 28 for 178 yards and two touchdowns for Mercyhurst (2-2, 0-1).

Division III

Allegheny 31, Waynesburg 15 – Tre Worship ran for 228 yards and two touchdowns, leading Allegheny (2-2, 1-1) to a PAC victory. Jack Johnson was 18 for 33 passing for 228 yards and a 63-yard touchdown to Levi Swartz. Justin Flack ran for 86 yards and two touchdowns for Waynesburg (2-2, 1-1).

Carnegie Mellon 35, Thiel 6 – Cole Franklin ran for 82 yards and a touchdown to lead Carnegie Mellon (4-0, 2-0) to a PAC victory. CMU held Thiel to minus-13 rushing yards on 24 carries. Owen Trumbull was 23 of 39 passing for 176 yards for Thiel (0-4, 0-2).

Case Western 34, Geneva 7 – Antonio Orsini ran for 176 yards and two touchdowns to power Case Western (3-1, 2-0) to a PAC victory. Drew Saxton was 13 for 19 for 205 yards and two scores, including four passes for 84 yards and a TD to Ethan Dahlem. Josh Syster had 79 yards rushing for Geneva (0-4, 0-2).

Grove City 42, Saint Vincent 7 – Logan Pfeuffer was 10 for 16 passing for 170 yards and two touchdowns and Clayton Parrish ran 16 times for 107 yards to lead Grove City (3-1, 1-1) to a PAC victory. Scott Fraser had four catches for 78 yards and a touchdown and Ryan Heckathorn grabbed three balls for 69 yards and a score for Grove City. Brad Walker was 20 for 26 passing for 145 yards and two interceptions for Saint Vincent (1-3, 1-1). DJ Gray ran 16 times for 69 yards and a touchdown.

Washington & Jefferson 50, Bethany 7 – Anthony Rosati caught five passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns and Raymond Holmes ran for 56 yards and two scores as Washington & Jefferson (3-1, 1-1) rolled to a PAC win. Colton Jones was 12 for 15 for 173 yards and three TDs. W&J held Bethany (1-2, 0-1) to 126 yards of offense and forced five turnovers.

Division I FCS

St. Francis (Pa.) 45, Norfolk State 26 – Justin Sliwoski threw a pair of touchdowns and ran for another while Cole Doyle threw a touchdown pass and St. Francis (Pa.) rattled Norfolk State.

Sliwoski set the tone almost immediately when he threw a 26-yard dart to Dawson Snyder for his first-career touchdown reception and a 7-0 lead on the Red Flash’s opening drive.

On fourth-and-13, Snyder lined up to the left, ran a post route, beat his man and Sliwoski put it on him. It was the first of three first-quarter touchdowns for St. Francis (2-2) en route to a 35-12 halftime advantage.

Sliwoski and Doyle split quarterback duties and the two combined to complete 20-of-29 passes for 290 yards.

Jaylan Adams threw for two touchdowns for Norfolk St.

The Spartans (0-4) have lost seven straight. Their last win occurred on Oct. 30, 2021 when they beat Morgan State 31-20 at the end of a six-game winning streak.

East Tennessee State 45, Robert Morris 3 — Jacob Saylors rushed for 170 yards and three touchdowns to lead East Tennessee State (2-2) to victory at Robert Morris (0-3). The Buccaneers led at halftime, 42-0. Robert Morris avoid the shutout when Jayson Jenkins hit a 39-yard field goal with 13:13 left in the game.
