District college roundup: Cal (Pa.) stings Clarion with last-minute touchdown
Phaeton Hill hit Deontae Williams for a 56-yard touchdown catch with 11 seconds left in the game as Cal (Pa.) defeated Clarion, 31-28, in a PSAC thriller Saturday.
Anthony Guercio connected with Holt Egan on a 16-yard TD pass with 1:17 to play to give Clarion a 28-24 lead.
Hill threw for 364 yards and two touchdowns and Williams caught nine passes for 152 yards for the Vulcans (5-2, 2-2). Guercio threw for 407 yards and four touchdowns and Egan had four catches for 125 yards for the Golden Eagles (5-2, 1-2).
Fairmont State 35, Edinboro 30 – Leonard Farrow rushed for 195 yards and a touchdown as Fairmont State (4-3) held off Edinboro (3-4) in a nonconference matchup. Fairmont State’s Nino Marzullo threw for 142 yards and a touchdown and ran for 74 yards and three TDs. Defensively, Gavin Smith had two interceptions for Fairmont State. Nico Marchitelli threw for 192 yards and a touchdown and ran for 57 yards and another TD for Edinboro.
Seton Hill 28, Gannon 14 – Ky’Ron Craggette ran 21 times for 210 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead Seton Hill (4-4-, 2-2) past Gannon (1-6, 1-2) in a PSAC clash. Ritchie McCormack made 11 tackles, including two for a loss and one sack, as the Griffins recorded seven sacks in the game. Anthony Harris threw for 203 yards and a touchdown for Gannon.
Slippery Rock 30, IUP 27 – DaOne Owens threw for 183 yards and a touchdown and added two rushing touchdowns as Slippery Rock (4-2, 2-1) defeated IUP (5-2, 2-2) in a PSAC matchup. JayJay Jordan added 99 rushing yards and a touchdown for Slippery Rock, which trailed 20-10 at halftime. Matthew Rueve tossed for 233 yards and ran for a touchdown for IUP.

Carnegie Mellon 44, Gettysburg 20 – Joey McGinnis IV threw for 366 yards and four touchdowns as No. 16 Carnegie Mellon (4-2, 2-0) defeated Gettysburg (0-6, 0-1) in Centennial Conference play. Reece Kolke caught six passes for 170 yards and a touchdown for the Tartans while teammate Brendan McCullough had eight receptions for 83 yards and three TDs.
Geneva 62, Waynesburg 20 – Caleb Romano threw for 373 yards and four touchdowns and Keaton Baker caught nine passes for 132 yards and a score to lead Geneva (4-3, 4-1) to a PAC victory. Kaden Ebron ran for 117 yards and a touchdown for Waynesburg (2-5, 2-2).
Grove City 42, Allegheny 6 – Chase Rankin ran for 96 yards and a touchdown and Ian Demeri added 59 rushing yards and two scores to help Grove City (4-2, 3-1) to a PAC win. Sutton Ellis threw for 108 yards and a touchdown and ran for a score and Seth McGroerty caught five passes for 113 yards for the Wolverines. Carson Colucci threw for 101 yards and a touchdown for Allegheny (2-5, 2-3).
Washington & Jefferson 56, Saint Vincent 10 – In a PAC game, Andrew Sharp rushed for 103 yards and three touchdowns as Washington & Jefferson (4-2, 4-0) beat Saint Vincent (2-5, 1-4). Kellan Stahl threw for 254 yards and two touchdowns and Jacob Macosko caught six passes for 124 yards and a TD for the Presidents, who scored 28 points in the second quarter and amassed 510 yards overall. Julian Walker had 50 rushing yards, 74 receiving yards and a touchdown for the Bearcats.
Westminster 48, Thiel 6 – Quentin Goode threw for 324 yards and four touchdowns, including three to Brite Cannon, as Westminster (4-2, 3-1) defeated Thiel (0-6, 0-4) in PAC play. Cannon caught five passes for 167 yards. Westminster outgained Thiel 463-137. Keller Herzberger threw for 128 yards and ran for Thiel’s only touchdown.
