Roman Purcell threw for 82 yards and ran for 78 yards and a touchdown as No. 10 Cal (Pa.) scored a 26-24 victory over West Chester (1-1) in nonconference play Saturday afternoon.
Bobbie Boyd Jr. led the Vulcans (2-0) in rushing with 79 yards and one touchdown. West Chester’s Jordan Cooper threw for 180 yards and one touchdown to Matthew Iuvara and ran for 86 yards. Iuvara finished with four catches for 115 yards.
In other Division II games:
Clarion 31, Shippensburg 24 — Anthony Guercio threw for 236 yards and two touchdowns to lead Clarion (3-0) to a nonconference win against Shippensburg (0-2). Holt Egan caught five passes for 87 yards for Clarion while teammate JaTawn Williams added five receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown. Riley Gunnels threw for 245 yards and two touchdowns for Shippensburg.
East Stroudsburg 69, Gannon 22 — Sean McTaggart tossed for 212 yards and four touchdowns as East Stroudsburg (2-1) downed Gannon (0-3) in a nonconference game. Harrison Susi rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns for East Stroudsburg, which led at halftime, 41-9. Vincent Isom had two sacks and a forced fumble for East Stroudsburg’s defense, which recorded six sacks overall. Ty Hurst threw for 237 yards and a touchdown for Gannon.
IUP 42, Lock Haven 10 — Matthew Rueve completed 24 of 32 passes for 365 yards and five touchdowns as IUP (1-1) rolled past Lock Haven (1-1). Devin Whitlock (Belle Vernon) caught seven passes for 150 yards and a score. Jeremiah Coleman had three catches for 95 yards and two TDs.
Kutztown 34, Edinboro 0 — In nonconference play, Judd Novak threw for 118 yards and one touchdown as Kutztown (2-0) shut out Edinboro (1-1). Kutztown’s defense limited Edinboro to just 12 rushing yards. Nico Marchitelli tossed for 191 yards for Edinboro.
Seton Hill 31, Bloomsburg 28 — Boden St. Marie scored on an 11-yard run with 54 second left in the game to lift Seton Hill (2-1) over Bloomsburg (0-2) in a nonconference matchup. The Griffins trailed by 10 with 4:03 left in the fourth quarter when St. Marie hit Clint Washington with a 24-yard touchdown pass to pull within four. St. Marie finished with 268 passing yards and two touchdowns. Ky’Ron Craggette led Seton Hill on the ground with 97 rushing yards and one touchdown. K.J. Riley threw for 229 yards and two touchdowns for Bloomsburg.
Slippery Rock 35, Shepherd 28 — JayJay Jordan scored on a 20-yard run in overtime to lift Slippery Rock (2-0) past Shepherd (0-2). Jordan had more than 100 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns.
Division III
Dickinson 52, Waynesburg 19 — Ben Klassen threw for 163 yards and three touchdowns as Dickinson (1-1) downed Waynesburg (0-2) in a nonconference game. Keesean Campbell scored on a 10-yard pass and a 94-yard kickoff return for Dickinson. Isaac Trout caught five passes for 92 yards for Waynesburg.
Hampden-Sydney 38, Washington & Jefferson 31 — In nonconference play, Carter Sido threw for 285 yards and four touchdowns, including three in a nine-minute span in the third quarter, as Hampden-Sydney (2-0) defeated Washington & Jefferson (0-2). Jordan Jackson caught nine passes for 113 yards and a touchdown for Hampden-Sydney while Manning Lasso added six receptions for 91 yards and one TD. Kellen Stahl threw for 281 yards and one touchdown to John Peduzzi for the Presidents. Peduzzi caught 11 passes for 112 yards while teammate Andrew Sharp rushed for 119 yards and one touchdown.
Juniata 40, Allegheny 38 — Jordan Horm scored on a 4-yard pass from Ethan Eisenberg with seven seconds left to give Juniata (2-0) a win over Allegheny (0-2). Allegheny’s Terran Mitchell scored on an 80-yard kickoff return with 1:03 left for a 38-34 lead. Allegheny QB Carson Colucci threw for 203 yards and a score and ran for a TD. Dominic Berardu ran for 114 yards and two touchdowns.
Mount Union 49, Grove City College 14 — No. 2-ranked Mount Union scored 42 unanswered points to win at No. 15 Grove City. QB Mikey Maloney threw for 305 yards and two touchdowns, and Darnell Williams ran for 116 yards and three scores for Mount Union (2-0). QB Sutton Ellis scored on a 10-yard run, and Daniel Sullivan caught a 10-yard touchdown pass for Grove City (1-1).
Westminster 27, Franklin & Marshall 7 — QB Sean O’Shea threw for 78 yards and ran for 157 yards and two scores to lift Westminster (1-1) past Franklin & Marshall. The Titans defense forced three interceptions and held F&M to 210 yards.
Wisconsin-Lacrosse 38, Carnegie Mellon 14 — Kyle Haas threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns to lead No. 9 Wisconsin-Lacrosse (1-0) to the nonconference win at No. 17 Carnegie Mellon (1-1). Jack Janke caught seven passes for 107 yards and a touchdown for Wisconsin-Lacrosse. Brendan McCullough caught seven passes for 199 yards and two touchdowns for the Tartans, which turned the ball over four times.
Wooster 28, Saint Vincent 14 — Michael Boyle threw for 342 yards and four touchdowns to lead Wooster (1-1) to the nonconference win against Saint Vincent (1-1). Jordan Lewis and Tate Journell each had seven receptions and two touchdowns for Wooster with Lewis having 150 yards and Journell 109 yards. Saint Vincent’s Jake Phillips threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns—both to Chris Downs, who had seven receptions for 104 yards. The game was tied at 14 at halftime.
Division I FCS
Lehigh 35, Duquesne 21 — Hayden Johnson threw three touchdown passes, and Lehigh (3-0) defeated Duquesne in the schools’ first meeting. Duquesne trailed only 28-21 early in the fourth quarter after Logan Kushner’s 1-yard touchdown run finished off a 14-play, 83-yard drive. Lehigh answered with Aaron Crossley’s 1-yard run that capped the scoring midway through the period. Tyler Riddell threw for 211 yards with two touchdowns and Joey Isabella had 153 receiving yards, including a 66-yard touchdown for the Dukes (1-2).
Central Connecticut 31, St. Francis 7 — Brady Olson threw for 193 yards and two touchdowns, Donny Marcus added two rushing scores, and defending Northeast Conference champion Central Connecticut (2-1) beat St. Francis (0-3). The CCSU defense forced five turnovers. Nick Whitfield Jr. was 13 of 26 for 159 yards with two interceptions for Saint Francis. Lukas Gilland had a 71-yard reception — marking the first time a freshman had a catch of 70-plus yards for Saint Francis since 2016.
Robert Morris 28, West Liberty 14 — Ethan Shine ran for 133 yards, Zach Tanner threw two short touchdown passes and Robert Morris defeated Division II West Liberty. Tanner threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Thomas Lee, Donta Whack scored on a 2-yard run, Tanner connected with Jaqai Carter for a 4-yard score, and Shine scored on a 1-yard run. Tanner attempted only nine passes and completed eight for 83 yards.
