Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Henry Mondeaux during a training-camp practice at Heinz Field in August. Mondeaux was added to the Steelers’ active roster off of their practice squad Friday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers made the placing of Devin Bush on injured reserve official Friday, and they chose a defensive lineman to take his place on the active roster.

Former Oregon player Henry Mondeaux was promoted from the practice squad. Wearing the familiar No. 99 formerly donned by Brett Keisel, Mondeaux spent all of last season on the Steelers’ practice squad after signing a reserve/future deal the prior winter.

A playmaker during training camp last year, Mondeaux’s promotion adds to a defensive linemen corps on the 53-man roster that includes rookie Carlos Davis and second-year Isaiah Buggs behind the standout starting trio of Cameron Heyward, Stephon Tuitt and Tyson Alualu.

A two-year starter who appeared in the College Football Playoff title game as a freshman, Mondeaux never has been part of an NFL active roster but was onthe New Orleans Saints practice squad as a rookie in 2018. He also spent some time on the offseason roster of the Kansas City Chiefs.

While the 6-foot-4, 280-pound Henry Mondeaux is motivated and eager to show the #Steelers that he belongs on the roster, what pushes him even more has nothing to do with occupying blockers or getting push in the pass-rush.https://t.co/evXYbQORKE

Backfilling the practice squad, the Steelers signed Ray Wilborn. The 6-foot-4, 224-pound Wilborn played safety as a senior at Ball State last season after starting at linebacker as a junior. The Steelers list him at linebacker. Wilborn spent time this offseason with the Atlanta Falcons.

Bush this week had season-ending surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee suffered during Sunday’s win against the Cleveland Browns.
