For the first time in the 105-year history of the Duquesne men’s basketball program, the Dukes will face the same opponent on consecutive days this weekend.

After a regularly scheduled game at George Washington at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Duquesne will stay in Washington to pick up another game against the Colonials at 2 p.m. Sunday.

“In a season like this one, you have to come up with creative ways to get games in,” Duquesne coach Keith Dambrot said in a release. “We’ll both be in the same place at the same time, so why not play two? I know our team is looking forward to the challenge.”

Duquesne has had five games canceled because of coronavirus concerns and hasn’t played since an 81-68 victory over UNC-Greensboro on Dec. 2.

Duquesne’s scheduled Atlantic 10 opener in Saint Louis on Wednesday was called off because of an outbreak within the Billikens’ program after the Dukes had traveled to Missouri for the game.

It’s the first time Duquesne will play conference games on consecutive games since 1987.

Duquesne’s home opener is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday against Davidson at La Roche. It’s the school’s latest home opener in 89 years.

George Washington is off to a 2-6 start, 1-0 in the Atlantic 10. Duquesne is 1-1.
