Duquesne center Tre Williams will have season-ending arthroscopic meniscus surgery early next week to repair an injury to his right knee suffered Wednesday late in the first half of a loss to Davidson.

His recovery time has been set at four to six weeks, Duquesne officials said.

“I feel bad for Tre, because he’s worked so hard all year long,” coach Keith Dambrot said. “Our primary concern is Tre’s health. He is receiving excellent medical care, and I’m confident he’ll be able to come back at 100%.”

The loss of Williams, who transferred from Indiana State this season, is a huge blow to the Dukes, who also have lost big men Austin Rotroff and R.J. Gunn to injuries.

Williams is the only Duquesne player to start all 26 games this season. He was averaging 31.4 minutes while standing second in scoring (10.8 points) and rebounding (5.7). He also leads the team with 2.1 blocks, 38th in the nation.

Duquesne (6-20, 1-13) has three games remaining in the regular season, starting at Rhode Island at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The Atlantic 10 Tournament is scheduled for March 9-13.
