Eagles' Carson Wentz declared out for rest of wild-card game with head injury

Philadelphia Eagles’ Carson Wentz is hit by Seattle Seahawks’ Jadeveon Clowney (90) during the first half of an NFL wild-card playoff football game, Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020, in Philadelphia.

Carson Wentz’s first postseason start did not last a quarter.

Wentz, the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, was knocked out of the contest Sunday in the first quarter of the wild-card playoff game against Seattle because of a head injury.

Seahawks defensive end Jadeveon Clowney hit Wentz helmet to helmet as the two were going down.

Clowney was not penalized for the hit.

After the hit, Wentz was able to finish the drive, which lasted for five more plays, but after the Eagles eventually punted, the quarterback was taken into the blue medical tent.

The Eagles announced shortly after halftime that Wentz would not return.

Wentz was replaced by 40-year-old Josh McCown who was in his first career playoff game.
