According to a report from ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler, the Philadelphia Eagles will be conducting an interview with former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell.
While Fowler’s report doesn’t explicitly state Caldwell is being interviewed for the defensive coordinator position, the Eagles are in need of filling that roll with Ron Rivera also reportedly being interviewed as well.
Fowler stated in his report that Caldwell is also in talks with the Las Vegas Raiders about joining their staff in a senior defensive position with defensive coordinator flexibility, pending the status of current defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, who is still under contract with the Raiders while also in the mix of head coaching jobs among other teams.
As a player, Caldwell was a linebacker for six NFL teams over the course of his career from 1993-2003. He played for the Eagles from 1998-2001. Caldwell has been coaching since 2008 including defensive quality control coach (2008-09), assistant linebackers coach (2010) and linebackers coach (2011-12).
Caldwell was with the Jaguars the last two seasons, but was fired after Jacksonville missed the playoffs this year. Notably, Caldwell was the inside linebackers coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2019—21, leading Devin White and Lavonte David to All-Pro selections to go with a Super Bowl VL victory that limited Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs’ offense to just nine points.
