East Boros Sports Hall of Fame banquet canceled for 2020
The Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, East Boros Chapter, announced Tuesday it has canceled its annual induction banquet scheduled for Oct. 8 at Edgewood Country Club.
The covid-19 pandemic and the logistics of hosting a ceremony of that size, East Boros president Bob Ford said, was the main reason for the decision.
“With the ever-changing pandemic, we simply have no other choice,” Ford said in an information email.
“The health and safety of our inductees, past inductees, guests, friends and committee are of the utmost priority. After careful consideration, including multiple calls with committee members and past inductees, I cannot find a way to successfully execute our annual East Boros Hall of Fame Induction banquet this year.”
This month normally marks the time the hall of fame committee selects each year’s induction class. Ford said a class had not been selected for this year in the wake of uncertainty surrounding the ability to host the banquet.
He did confirm that the next banquet and induction ceremony will be Oct 14, 2021, at Edgewood Country Club.
The East Boros Sports Hall of Fame, which represents 21 communities in eastern Allegheny County and western Westmoreland County, first enshrined area athletic greats in 1978, and to date, more than 400 have been celebrated.
