Emma Nedley was so good this season for the Penn softball team, the postseason award she garnered Wednesday almost seemed anticlimactic.

Nedley was rewarded for her dynamic, breakthrough season by being named Ivy League Rookie of the Year.

A freshman outfielder from Penn-Trafford, she also made the all-conference first team as a unanimous selection.

Nedley, on the ballot for the NFCA Freshman of the Year award — the top 25 freshmen in the nation make the list — hit .386 with 26 runs, eight doubles, a team-high five home runs and 23 RBIs.

She hit .435 with 17 runs against conference opponents. She had more steals (9) and hits (30) than any league freshman. Penn pointed out that the Quakers had a 12-2 record when Nedley had an RBI and 16-5 when she scored a run.
