Hanna Green competes in the opening round of the 800 meter during the 2019 USATF Outdoor Championships at Drake Stadium on July 25, 2019, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Because of excessive heat in the Eugene, Ore., area, the U.S. Olympic trials were suspended Sunday until midnight.

Temperatures exceeded 100 degrees, and the stadium was evacuated because of the heat.

Hempfield graduate Maddie (Holmberg) Nickal has one event left to compete in the heptathlon. She placed fifth in the long jump and seventh in the javelin after an appeal. Officials originally ruled Nickal’s second attempt a foul, but after a review determined the point of her javelin did hit first.

She was elevated from 13th to seventh place.

She is in the first heat of the 800-meter run at midnight.

Latrobe’s Hanna Green is competing in the 800-meter women’s final. She too won an appeal after being tripped up in the turn of her semifinal. She became the ninth runner of the field.

Connellsville’s Madison Wiltrout (javelin) and Bridget (Guy) Williams made the finals in their events Saturday but came up short of their bid to make the United States Olympic team.
