Fantasy Sports: Chase Claypool, Travis Fulgham emerge; Explaining those data problems that hit many leagues
No. Your commissioner wasn’t mining for your data.
It wasn’t a weird computer virus to worry about along with coronavirus.
It wasn’t a hack of your fantasy football league from Russia or China.
It was an error from your platform’s service provider that kept you in fantasy-limbo throughout Sunday afternoon. That was the case for many players that rely on Yahoo.com, RealTime, RotoWire, and FanDuel for scoring or information.
Jeff Erickson of RotoWire joins me for our weekly fantasy sports podcast, and he tells us what’s happening as we approach another weekend of NFL action.
“There are companies out there that provide the stats to fantasy sites. And they provide a feed to fantasy sites,” Erickson explained. “They have had problems with their feed. It’s frustrating. I’m sure they are banging their heads against the wall.”
Erickson said the issue is pervasive in the industry.
“It’s pretty widespread,” Erickson said. “They (Stats Inc.) haven’t really been able to fix the problem (as of Thursday morning). There have been some patches here and there. Some sites have gone to alternative methods to get stats.”
We also talk about the dawn of two fantasy football receiving stars from Heinz Field last Sunday — Chase Claypool of the Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles wideout Travis Fulgham. We attempt to figure out if both will continue trending hot moving forward.
Running backs are always a storyline. That’s especially true this week. What should owners do with Le’Veon Bell now that he has been released with the Jets? If you wait out a signing for him, how will he perform in his new city? Erickson also comments of the notion of a potential reunion in Pittsburgh.
Also questions linger for lineups regarding Melvin Gordon’s status in the wake of his DUI arrest in Denver and players from San Francisco based on the 49ers quarterback situation.
We mix in some baseball, too, as we scratch our heads about how the condensed playoff schedule is messing with pitching rotations. And, by extension, how it is impacting strategies for daily fantasy players and those in mini-postseason tournaments.
