Five days after taking a starring role in the fastest-skater contest at the NHL All-star game, Kendall Coyne Schofield will do the same for a national broadcast involving the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Coyne Schofield will be part of NBCSN’s coverage of the Penguins home game against the Eastern Conference-leading Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday. The he first woman to compete in an NHL All-Star Skills Competition, Coyne Schofield will be part of pregame, intermission and in-game coverage from the booth and “between the glass.”

Coyne Schofield, who plays for the Minnesota Whitecaps of the National Women’s Hockey League, will join play-by-play announcer John Forslund and former Penguins player and coach Eddie Olczyk as part of the broadcast team.

Coyne Schofield is an Illinois native who was part of Team USA’s gold medal-winning team at the Olympics last year.

“Kendall’s a gold-medal winning player who had a spectacular moment at the All-Star Game that had people talking about hockey,” NBC Sports executive producer and president Sam Flood said in a statement. “We saw the enormous reaction the players and fans had when she blazed that amazing speed, and want to celebrate her accomplishment. We think viewers will be very interested to hear her lean in and talk about hockey during a regular-season game.”

Keep up with the Pittsburgh Penguins all season long.
