Kirsten Welsh was a standout defenseman at Robert Morris.

A Robert Morris graduate was among four female officials working NHL rookie tournament games this weekend.

Kirsten Welsh, a two-time all-conference defender who wrapped up her RMU career last season, worked as a linesman during a rookie tournament game between prospects from the Penguins and Boston Bruins on Friday afternoon in Buffalo.

“I love the game, and I want to use my experience and knowledge to be one of the first females to officiate in the NHL, to open up the path for the future of females officiating,” Welsh told NHL.com.

An Ontario native, Welsh recorded 91 points in 128 career games for the Colonials.

Follow the Pittsburgh Penguins all season long.
