Wednesday’s “First Call” gives us the first “feud” between Antonio Brown and Vontaze Burfict. And the Raiders really did sign Richie Incognito. The worst first pitch ever. Another Austin Meadows homer.
It’s time to play the feudAntonio Brown and Vontaze Burfict had their first family feud in Oakland.
No, it’s not what you think.
The former AFC North rivals actually played the “Silver and Black Family Feud” together. On the same team. With Isaiah Crowell. And apparently no one killed each other.
Head coach Jon Gruden used the game as a bonding exercise during team meetings recently, according to Peter King’s “Football Morning in America.”
“You gotta try to get these guys to know each other,” Gruden said. “This is the only time that you can really do that. April, May, June. It’s almost like church. Everybody stand up. Shake a hand, introduce yourself to your teammates.”
Yeah. Because when I think Antonio Brown and Vontaze Burfict, I think divine intervention.
Gruden said one of the questions was, “Who do the Raiders play on the other side of the Mississippi?”
He didn’t say whether anyone got it right.
FYI, the Raiders have road games against the Jets, Colts and Packers.
I see what you did thereBrown didn’t take a direct shot at Ben Roethlisberger here. But did you catch this quote from Brown regarding his new quarterback, Derek Carr?
“It’s tremendously important to have a relationship off the field because playing football, you get mentally tired, you get frustrated, you always want to have that respect for the guy to know where he’s coming from, know what he stands for and know what’s important to him so you guys can be on the same page, and do what you desire to do — and you desire to win,” Brown said.
Boy, and you thought Big Ben was the king of being passive-aggressive?
“Camaraderie is key,” Brown continued. “Any team needs camaraderie to win, to know the guys and have their back. That’s why we’re here today, to build camaraderie, show the guys what I’m about and continue to build it.”
Showing up for the last week of practice usually aids in that regard, am I right?
But, so long as no one was called “two face,” I guess that’s progress.
On my honor …Oh, we aren’t done with the Raiders yet.
They did it. The Raiders followed through on their interest in Richie Incognito to drum up the volatility even more.
They signed the oft-troubled offensive lineman to a one-year contract Wednesday. Incognito has made four Pro Bowls. He didn’t play last season, though.
The Mercury News reported the Raiders waited to hear from the NFL about a possible suspension for Incognito stemming from an arrest at an Arizona funeral home before signing him. He visited the Raiders on May 6. It’s still unclear whether he will be suspended.
However, it was general manager Mike Mayock’s quote about the decision to ink Incognito that made me laugh.
“You can’t have all boy scouts,” Mayock said.
No. You can’t. But between Incognito, A.B. and Burfict, how about a few that at least made Webelos?
There’s something in the Boy Scout oath about being “mentally awake” and “morally straight,” right?
Austin awestruckAustin Meadows is scalding hot in Tampa.
The former Pirate hit another home run Tuesday night, his 12th of the season.

The Rays won 3-1. Meadows was 2 for 4. He’s hitting .356 and has 12 hits in his last 19 at-bats.
Meadows was part of the Chris Archer trade. So let’s take a look at Archer’s stats to comp …
… actually, let’s look at something else.
Juuuuuust a bit outsideThis may be the worst ceremonial first pitch of all time.
I mean, not as bad as anything Archer has thrown this year. But still, not good.
Let's just say there was some shaky command on tonight's ceremonial first pitch at Guaranteed Rate Field.#Royals | #WhiteSox pic.twitter.com/c3YT5YsH3o— FOX Sports Kansas City (@FSKansasCity) May 28, 2019
NBC Chicago says that was the White Sox employee of the month. Unfortunately, she wasn’t the employee of the month for March. She could’ve used spring training.
You can’t blame the photographer for the slow reaction. How could he have expected a ball would be coming toward him from that angle?
Perhaps this is how the Pirates should’ve pitched to Derek Dietrich Tuesday night.
