First Call: Antonio Brown overseas as attempted murder charges loom; Sean Casey needs surgery after Savannah Bananas injury
Tuesday’s “First Call” sorts out Antonio Brown’s latest legal drama. Sean Casey needs significant surgery after an injury suffered during a Savannah Bananas game.
We get an update on Jonnu Smith’s status.
And Penn State’s hockey team just landed a big recruit who could hear his name called in the first-round of the NHL Draft.
Awaiting a return
It sounds like authorities in Miami will wait for Antonio Brown to return to the United States before pursuing him on attempted murder charges. The former Steeler is currently in Dubai, according to the Miami Herald.
“We’re not going to be sending anybody there,” Miami Police Chief Manny Morales told the outlet Monday.
On June 11, a judge in Florida signed a warrant for the arrest of A.B. in the wake of a May 16 dispute at a boxing event hosted by influencer Adin Ross. As the Herald reports, Brown was detained — but not arrested — the night of the shooting outside of a warehouse in Miami’s Little River neighborhood where the event was being staged.
Gunfire was involved, and authorities now believe Brown shot at a man who the former All-Pro claims jumped him in an attempt to steal his jewelry.
The Herald goes on to say that detectives have been in contact with Brown’s attorney and expect him to be taken into custody once he returns to South Florida. He is not considered “on the run,” as Brown’s trip began before the warrant was issued.

Wait and see
A few weeks ago, rumors popped up about the Steelers perhaps having interest in Jonnu Smith. Now, word is that the Miami Dolphins tight end has a “fluid” situation with his current team.
That was the characterization from Smith’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, on WSVN-TV Sunday.
“Nothing has been resolved yet,” Rosenhaus said, according to the Miami Herald’s C. Isaiah Smalls II. “It’s still an ongoing situation.”
Drew Rosenhaus said Jonnu Smith's contract talks were "still fluid" on WSVN 7 Sports Xtra.

Smith was a no-show for the Dolphins’ mandatory minicamp last week. He wants a new contract after signing a two-year, $8.4 million agreement with the Dolphins before last season.
Via ProFootballTalk.com, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said the team isn’t looking to move Smith, but they haven’t given him a new contract yet, either. The 29-year-old had 88 catches for 884 yards and four touchdowns in Miami a year ago.
Smith has played under Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith in both Tennessee and Atlanta.
That’s Bananas
One-time Pirate Sean Casey is now facing surgery after suffering an injury over the weekend when he was playing as a member of the Savannah Bananas barnstorming baseball team.
Casey, who spent most of his playing days with the Reds, suited up for the Bananas during a game Friday in Cincinnati. Casey hurt himself running to first base after a ball-four walk got away from the catcher.

Casey speculated that he may have initially injured the leg backing away from the wild pitch or even goofing around in the on-deck circle before he came up to hit.
Penn State prowess
The Frozen Four run of Penn State’s men’s hockey team appears to be paying dividends. The Nittany Lions just landed a potential top-15 NHL draft choice.
Jackson Smith announced his commitment to the team on Sunday. The left-handed defenseman is likely to be selected in the top half of the first round in the draft at the end of this month.
The 18-year-old is rated No. 10 overall at ESPN.com, No. 12 by The Athletic and NHL.com has him 13th among North American Skaters.
