First Call: Josh Allen pregame video about JuJu's dancing; last date with a Steelers rival in Cincy?
Tuesday’s “First Call” shows us that the Buffalo Bills may have been a bit more perturbed about pregame activities from one of the Steelers players than we thought.
The Steelers could see the last of a longtime Cincinnati Bengals rival on Monday. We check on the confidence level of Steelers fans moving toward the last three games of the year.
Gambling lines are out for Cleveland’s new baseball nickname. And the discussions about Super Bowl logistics are starting to grow.
Not ‘Josh’in’ around
I guess Jordan Poyer wasn’t the only player on the Bills to take notice of JuJu Smith-Schuster dancing on the team logo at the 50-yard line during pregame warmups.
Based on this tunnel video originally published by the Bills Twitter feed, quarterback Josh Allen was aware, too.
Given the edits that are clearly made in the audio, he was none too pleased.

Note to JuJu: Monday night, you are in Cincinnati. You are playing the Bengals. It’s not worth it to fire them up. They probably just want to get the season over with as easily as possible. Let it be that way.
Save your dancing until you score.
They are still playing the Super Bowl?
Yes. Even if the Steelers don’t make the Super Bowl, believe it or not, the game is still scheduled to be played.
Unless the Cleveland Browns or Baltimore Ravens make it. Then out of a true sense of right and wrong, the NFL should just cancel the thing.
Short of that happening, the hope is that there will be at least some fans in the stands at Raymond James Stadium for Super Bowl LV.
NFL.com’s Judy Battista provided this update.
Commissioner Goodell says there is not yet a definitive fan capacity number for Tampa Super Bowl.
— Judy Battista (@judybattista) December 14, 2020
I guess that’s not much of an update, is it? But there’s a reason why. As Battista expanded, “Local virus conditions as we get closer will impact decisions like fan capacity.”
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was clear about two things. First of all, the NFL is not planning on any league personnel being vaccinated prior to the game because no one “falls into any of the categories of those who have been prioritized for vaccines.”
And secondly, teams might “come into Tampa later in the week than the usual Monday arrival.”
Pulse of the fan base
What is the state of confidence, or lack thereof, when it comes to Steelers fans now that the team has lost two in a row after winning 11 straight to open the season?
Eh, not great. Nor should it be. Frankly, the team hasn’t looked good for about a month. But all in all, it doesn’t appear that a majority of Steeler Nation is jumping off the bandwagon.
At least not according to this poll from 93.7 The Fan.
DAILY TWITTER POLL:
Of their 3 remaining games (CIN, IND, CLE) how many will the Steelers win?— The Fan Morning Show (@FanMorningShow) December 14, 2020
I agree with the majority that feel there’s no way the Steelers lose out. That’d involve losing in Cincinnati Monday. And I don’t think that’s happening.
I also can’t see them having a great bounce-back to win all three remaining games against the Bengals, Colts and Browns.
I voted that the team would only win one game, meaning the Bengals contest.
I think they lose at home to Indianapolis. However, I’m reserving judgment on what may happen in Week 17 depending on what stakes, if any, are on the line in Cleveland.
Also, I’d like to see who is healthy enough to play in that contest. By that point, the Steelers may only have practice squad linebackers and offensive linemen remaining.
Come to think of it, that’s already close to being true, isn’t it?
Is Green gone?
The Steelers have played quite a few games against A.J. Green over the years. But this may be the last time they face him as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals.
The former Pro Bowl wide receiver is a free agent after 2020. And it seems unlikely that he will re-sign with the Bengals.
Via ESPN’s Ben Baby, “We don’t know what that looks like right now, but we’re prepared for anything … We’ll see what happens. I can’t read what’s going to happen. I’m living in the moment right now. Whatever is going to happen is going to happen.”
Green has spent all nine years of his career in Cincy. He has 9,326 receiving yards and 65 touchdowns to his credit. Of those touchdowns, eight have come against the Steelers, along with a career-best 88 catches and 1,178 yards.
Got a guess?
Cleveland’s baseball team is dropping its nickname. They have been the “Indians” since 1915. But that has been deemed too insensitive by modern standards.
So now questions exist about what the name will be moving forward. According to BetOnLine.ag, the favorite (5/2) is the “Spiders.” There was a National League team in Cleveland named the Spiders from 1889 to 1899.
Going with the Washington NFL approach seems to be a popular bet as well. “The Baseball Team” is next at 5/1. That’s tied with the “Guardians,” an homage to “The Guardians of Traffic.” Those are decorative statues on the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge. The “Wild Things” are next at 8/1. So folks in Washington, Pa. may want to get their trademark lawyers on speed dial.
Other nominees include “Crows” at 10/1, “Cuyahogas” at 20/1, and “Burning River” at 50/1.
No, seriously. I’m not joking about that one.
The “Swinging Helmets” come in at 100/1.
OK, that one I’m joking about.
