Pat McAfee speaks April 26, 2019, at the NFL football draft in Nashville, Tenn.

Tuesday’s “First Call has broadcast information for Pat McAfee’s show at Pittsburgh Steelers training camp. We also provide updates on two former Steelers, and we try to figure out if T.J. Watt’s extension has sparked a dialogue surrounding the contract of an AFC North rival.

Falling in line

Now that T.J. Watt has a new contract worth $132 million with the Steelers, many are wondering what that means for Cincinnati Bengals pass rusher Trey Hendrickson.

After all, he was the player who led the NFL in sacks in 2024 with 17.5. He has asked for a new contract as a result.

On Monday, Bengals owner Mike Brown painted an optimistic forecast, via video from SI.com’s James Rapien.

“I think it’ll get done, Brown said. “We like Trey as a person. He’s a good guy. When it comes to these negotiations — we’ve been through a few of them with him — he pushes hard. He gets emotional. We never have an easy time of it. But there’s one thing that is consistent: It always gets done. I think this one will, but we’ll see. I’ve been proven wrong before, but I’m pretty confident that we’ll get there at the end.”

The Bengals report to camp Tuesday. Hendrickson did not take part in the team’s mandatory minicamp in June. However, according to ProFootballTalk.com, Cincy’s director of player personnel Duke Tobin said on Monday that he is expecting Hendrickson to report to training camp.

Welcome back, Pat

Pat McAfee is going to broadcast his show from Steelers Training Camp. The ESPN production will be at Saint Vincent College on July 30.

The Plum native made that announcement during his program Monday.

McAfee most recently appeared in Western Pennsylvania in April for his “Big Night Aht event. One of the show’s regular guests is Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. So expect him to make an appearance.

The Steelers’ first public practice of training camp is Thursday. The night practice is Aug. 1.

Lone Star corner

An ex-Steelers cornerback is getting another job in Texas.

Arthur Maulet is signing a contract with the Houston Texans. According to NFL.com’s Cameron Wolfe, it’s a one-year deal.

Maulet is now 32 years old. He spent the past two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. After playing 14 games in Purple and Black in 2023, Maulet was only healthy enough for three appearances in 2024.

The Ravens released him in March. Over two years in Pittsburgh, Maulet played 33 games, had one interception, caused two fumbles, totaled two sacks and had 106 tackles.

On to the next

An ex-Steeler has decided to hang up his cleats and head into retirement.

Defensive tackle Khalil Davis is retiring at the age of 28. Davis’ agent Deiric Jackson told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler of his client’s plans.

Originally selected in the 2020 NFL Draft (sixth round) by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Davis finished his career with 46 tackles (10 for loss) and three sacks. Most recently, Davis was a Houston Texan and San Francisco 49er.

Davis was a Steelers practice squad member from Nov. 2, 2021, until Aug. 30, 2022.

His brother, Carlos, was taken by the Steelers in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL draft. He remained with Pittsburgh until June of 2023, when he joined the Falcons.
