Monday’s “First Call” looks at Ryan Shazier’s idea for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ next quarterback. A bad break for a Pitt alum in the Super Bowl. Antonio Brown’s temper-tantrum glove sold at auction.
And Sidney Crosby is staring at the prospect of goal No. 500 against the hated Philadelphia Flyers.
Bad bounce for Boyd
Pitt product and Clairton alum Tyler Boyd suffered a rare drop at a bad time for the Cincinnati Bengals in the Super Bowl on Sunday night.
It came on a third-and-9 snap from the Bengals’ own 40-yard line with the Bengals up 20-16 in the fourth quarter with 6:22 left on the clock.
As a result, the Bengals had to punt to Los Angeles. The Rams took the possession down the field and scored after chewing up almost five minutes of game time on 15 plays. Cooper Kupp’s eventual touchdown made the score 23-20, and that’s how the game would end.
The miscue was out of character for Boyd, who is normally sure-handed.
Tyler Boyd’s first drop since 2020 couldn’t have come at a worse time.— Ryan Clark (@Realrclark25) February 14, 2022
That is Tyler Boyd's first drop of the season (not counting a dropped two-point conversion).

Tyler Boyd has not dropped a slot target since Week 2 of the 2020 season

Boyd caught his previous five targets in the game to the tune of 48 yards.
I’m sure after Boyd’s trash talk about Steelers’ players dropping passes earlier this year, no one in Pittsburgh had any schadenfreude toward Boyd at all at that moment.
Did they?
Strong endorsement
Former Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier has an idea who should be the next Steelers quarterback. And he doesn’t want it to be a rookie.
Speaking on 93.7 The Fan Friday, Shazier said current 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo would be a good get. “I think somebody like Jimmy Garoppolo could really help,” Shazier said. “Personally, I don’t think we should draft a quarterback this year.”

According to the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the 49ers and Garoppolo are going to work together to get a trade done. Especially since Garoppolo’s no-trade clause will expire on March 16 and the 49ers can trade the 30-year-old quarterback to any team without his prior approval after that date.
“I’m told that’s not a huge factor because whether a trade agreement is reached before that or after that, it’ll be a collaborative effort to find Garoppolo’s next destination,” Garafolo reported Sunday ahead of Super Bowl LVI.
What’s ‘glove’ got to do with it?
Remember the Antonio Brown glove that went up for auction? Well, it sold.
Back when former Steelers, Raiders, Patriots and Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Brown had his shirtless temper tantrum exit from MetLife Stadium during Week 17 of this season, he threw a lot of his gear into the stands.

One of those receiver gloves he tossed to the fans wound up on the auction block at the end of January.
Via Lelands Sports Memorabilia and Card Auctions, it ended up selling for $16,911.60.
The starting bid of $81 was in honor of the jersey number Mr. Big Chest wore as a member of the Buccaneers.
Who wants to bet A.B. bid on it himself?
Turnpike tussle
The Penguins have now won all three of their games since the All-Star break. And they’ve all been on the road.
Now the Pens come home against the struggling Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night.
Philly has lost 15 of 17, including back-to-back losses against the Detroit Red Wings coming out of the break. One of those losses was a 4-2 defeat Saturday at the hands of Detroit goalie Thomas Greiss. The ex-Penguin stopped 42 of 44 shots.
The Pens have failed to get points in just three of their last 26 games. That’s since Dec. 4.
The Penguins have won both of their games against the Flyers this year (6-2 on Jan.6 in Philadelphia and 3-2 in Pittsburgh on Nov. 4).
Pens captain Sidney Crosby has 49 goals against the Flyers, more than any other opponent in his NHL career. The next goal he scores will be No. 500 in his career.
