Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield celebrates after running back Kareem Hunt scored a touchdown during the second half of the team’s NFL football game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Sept. 17, 2020, in Cleveland. The Browns won 35-30.

In Monday’s “First Call,” Baker Mayfield wants you to know how tough he is heading into Steelers week.

Just ask his “momma.”

Also, a future Steelers opponent just lost their quarterback. A division rival beats up on another one. Aaron Donald wrecks Alex Smith’s return. And Robert Morris’ hockey team may be back on the ice soon.

Red-hot Browns

I can’t fault you for questioning the success of the Cleveland Browns lately.

Yes. They averaged 39.3 points per game over three straight wins in Weeks 2-4. But they did so against some bad teams (Cincinnati Bengals, Washington, Dallas Cowboys).

Sunday, though, they played a 3-1 Indianapolis Colts club that was allowing a league-low 14 points per game over the first four weeks.

The Browns not only won again, but they put up some points, too. Thirty-two this time, as Cleveland won 32-23. But nine were on defense.

Along with that pick-six from Ronnie Harrison Jr., the Browns also forced a safety early in the fourth quarter.

The win boosts Cleveland to 4-1. The loss drops the Colts to 3-2. Cleveland comes to Heinz Field next Sunday for a key AFC battle.

They’ll come in with Baker Mayfield banged up. Browns coach Kevin Stefanski says his starting quarterback was getting X-rays on his ribs after a hit from Indianapolis’ Justin Houston.

But Mayfield insists that he’ll play against the Steelers, stating, “Momma didn’t raise no wuss.”

Raven romp

The defending AFC North champion Ravens kept pace with the Steelers (4-0) and Browns (4-1) atop the division.

Meanwhile, the Bengals had a two-week run of not losing come to an end.

The Ravens improved to 4-1 by dropkicking Cincinnati, 27-3. Bengals rookie quarterback Joe Burrow absorbed seven more sacks. He’s been dumped 22 times already in his first year.

This one came from his former LSU teammate Patrick Queen. And it resulted in a turnover.

The Bengals tied the Philadelphia Eagles two weeks ago and beat Washington last Sunday. But now they find themselves 1-3-1 while everyone else in the division has at least four victories.

Dak is down

The Browns offense isn’t the only scary unit coming up on the Steelers’ calendar.

They also have to play the Ravens on Nov. 1 and the Dallas Cowboys on Nov. 8.

But the Cowboys offense may have just gotten significantly less daunting. Quarterback Dak Prescott went down with a gruesome ankle injury. A warning, it’s a pretty nasty video. You may want to think twice before you watch it.

Dallas has averaged 36.5 points per game since the start of Week 2. The Cowboys managed to win 37-34 Sunday over the New York Giants despite Prescott’s injury.

Former Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton came in to finish the game. He threw for 111 yards. The Cowboys are now 2-3. That’s good enough to lead the NFC East. The Giants fell to 0-5.

Donald dominates

Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald couldn’t be stopped Sunday. The former Pitt star registered four sacks against Washington.

That one was against Kyle Allen. He also dropped Alex Smith three times. That was the first game back for the Washington quarterback after his leg was surgically repaired two years ago.

That was Donald’s fifth game with at least three sacks. CBS Sports research shows that’s the most since 2014.

Here we go, Bobby Mo

It looks like the Robert Morris men’s hockey team will be able to skate soon.

Atlantic Hockey has a plan to play in 2020-21. According to the Times Herald-Record (NY), “The start of the Atlantic Hockey Association season is expected to be the weekend of Nov. 13-14. … For the 2020-21 season, the league will feature only play within two established traveling pods. The Eastern pod has Army, American International, Bentley, Holy Cross and Sacred Heart. The Western pod has Canisius, Mercyhurst, Niagara, Robert Morris and Rochester Institute of Technology. Schools will play five games against each foe within a pod, for 20 games.”

Apparently, most series will be home-and-home travel. The hope being, eliminate hotel stays that could lead to exposure to the covid-19 virus.

Schools can schedule out-of-conference games. If RMU doesn’t start that first possible weekend, it is believed the Colonials will attempt to begin over the weekend of Nov. 20.
