Kevin Lohman

• Anglers at Keystone Lake are reporting plenty of largemouth bass catches, some of which are weighing in at more than a few pounds. As far as setup goes, crankbaits are fetching some lucrative results. While smallmouth bass are not being caught at the same rate as the largemouth bass, there have been a few catches of the former breed in the area.

• Bass and crappie are biting at Loyalhanna Lake. The bass are swimming closer to the shores, while the crappie are being found throughout the lake. Anglers are doing particularly well with the crappie when using a setup that includes minnows and jigs.

• The Youghiogheny River is shaping up to be a productive spot for anglers to visit as anglers are picking up trout, bass and catfish in solid numbers. A variety of other catches are being reported as well, including crappie, walleye and freshwater drum.

• The Glades in Butler County is offering up some solid action, as fishermen are reeling in channel catfish and some larger-sized largemouth bass. Apparently, fishing by boat is the most effective strategy for bringing in bass while catfish are biting at chicken livers and night crawlers.

• Lake Arthur is yielding catfish at a high rate, especially to anglers who are utilizing chicken liver or shrimp as bait. There are some walleye that are biting at night crawlers as well, particularly in the vicinity of the 422 road bed.

• In Clarion County, the Allegheny River is shaping up to be a go-to spot for anglers who are looking for walleye. The best spot in the river for the walleye appears to be the area around the Parker Islands. Fishermen are also doing reasonably well with smallmouth bass during the daytime, and channel catfish at night.

• At Kahle Lake, fishermen are reeling in a good deal of largemouth bass and a smaller number of panfish.

• The Upper Clarion River is harboring smallmouth bass and walleye. At night, anglers are doing well with channel catfish, too.

• The Lower Clarion River is offering up walleye and smallmouth bass. According to reports, the hot spot in the river is right around its merging point with the Allegheny River.
