Kim Lewis, who spent two seasons on former Duquesne coach Ron Everhart’s staff from 2006-08, has joined Andy Toole at Robert Morris. Lewis has coached in Division I men’s basketball for more than two decades.
“Kim is an excellent and experienced teacher, recruiter and coach of the game,” Toole said in a statement. “We are excited to have him as a part of our staff. He has been around winning for the majority of his career and has been a big factor in that success.”
He joins Robert Morris after spending the past five seasons at Mercer where he helped coach seven All-Southern Conference players.
Previously, Lewis served on Richmond’s staff from 2011-19, the last seven as an assistant coach. The Spiders won 19 or more games in four of those seasons, including 22 in 2016-17 when they made a run to the NIT semifinals.
Lewis also served as an assistant coach at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi under his former Tulane coach, Perry Clark, during the 2010-11 season. Lewis was an assistant coach at Tulane twice, from 1997-99 and 2008-2010.
His coaching experience stretches back to the early years of this century, serving two seasons (2004-06) under Everhart at Northeastern, in addition to time at McNeese State (2003-04) and Xavier University of Louisiana (2002-03).
Lewis made a name for himself as a player, winning Metro Conference Freshman of the Year at Tulane in 1991 and setting the school’s career record for steals (242). Lewis scored 1,384 points, currently 13th-most in program history, after playing in 125 games (third-most).
During his sophomore season, Lewis led Tulane in scoring (15.4 points per game) and helped the school earn its first conference championship and NCAA Tournament berth.
