Bowling Green freshman football player Anthony Johnson, who spent time at Jeannette before transferring to Cleveland Heights (Ohio) for his senior year of high school, announced he now plans to change colleges.

Johnson said on Twitter that he will enter the NCAA Transfer Portal and that his “recruitment is now open.”

The 6-foot-2, 270-pound defensive tackle played just three games this season and was credited with one tackle.

“The things I learned at Bowling Green will allow me to be prepared as the next D-1 school I go to,” he said.

Johnson was a star defensive end at Jeannette when the Jayhawks won WPIAL and PIAA Class A championships in 2017. He had 134 tackles and 12 sacks as a junior.

He went on to earn second-team all-state at Cleveland Heights.

He had several Division I offers coming out of high school, including Syracuse, Delaware, Central Michigan, Buffalo, UMass and Toledo.

Johnson attended Allderdice, Lincoln Park and Chartiers Valley before he came to Jeannette.
