Shown during a training camp practice at Saint Vincent College in August, running back Master Teague was signed to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice squad Wednesday. Teague, a former Ohio State star, spent 2 ½ weeks with the Steelers during the preseason.

Former Ohio State running back Master Teague is back with the Pittsburgh Steelers after signing to the team’s practice squad Wednesday. Teague, who had 18 touchdowns and 1,661 rushing yards in three-plus seasons in college, spent 2 ½ weeks with the Steelers during training camp in August.

The addition of Teague to the practice squad could perhaps provide a clue on the condition of Steelers third-down back Jaylen Warren, who left this past Sunday’s game because of a hamstring injury. The Steelers did not release a running back to make room to add Teague, who joins Anthony McFarland and Jason Huntley as running backs on the practice squad in addition to Warren, starter Najee Harris and special-teams specialist Benny Snell on the active roster.

At 5-foot-10, 220 pounds, Teague becomes arguably the most between-the-tackles, so-called power back of the group.

Teague was second-team all-Big Ten in 2020 and third-team all-conference in 2019, when Ohio State was a national finalist and semifinalist, respectively. Teague and Harris (of Alabama) were the primary running backs for their teams in the national championship game at the end of the 2020 season. Each had two first-half touchdowns.

During his weekly news conference Tuesday, coach Mike Tomlin termed Warren’s injury just as “not a significant hamstring, but his availability is in question. We’ll get through the week.”

Because the Steelers play Monday this coming week (at the Indianapolis Colts), there was no injury report released Wednesday.

In other practice-squad moves Wednesday, the Steelers added wide receiver Ja’Marcus Bradley and released defensive lineman Renell Wren.

The 6-1, 195-pound Bradley was taken in the XFL draft last week by the St. Louis Battlehawks. He had nine catches in eight NFL regular-season games over the 2020-21 seasons for the Cleveland Browns.

A veteran of 12 NFL regular-season games since being a fourth-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in 2019, Wren had been on the Steelers’ practice squad since the start of the regular season.
