Former Penguins defenseman Justin Schultz signs in Switzerland

Defenseman Justin Schultz was a member of the Penguins’ Stanley Cup championship team in 2016.

Former Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Justin Schultz has signed with HC Lugano of Switzerland’s National League.

That team announced the transaction via a release on Wednesday.

A native of Kelowna, British Columbia, Schultz spent the past 12 seasons in the NHL. Last season, the 34-year-old played in 70 games for the Seattle Kraken and posted 26 points (seven goals, 19 assists).

The right-handed Schultz spent parts of five seasons with the Penguins and was a member of the franchise’s Stanley Cup championship squads in 2016 and 2017. In total, he played in 234 games for the Penguins and scored 113 points (22 goals, 91 assists).

In addition to the Penguins and Kraken, Schultz has also played for the Edmonton Oilers and Washington Capitals.
