In 36 AHL games last season, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defenseman Colin Swoyer had 11 points (one goal, 10 assists).

Former Pittsburgh Penguins defensive prospect Colin Swoyer signed a one-year American Hockey League contract with the Hershey Bears.

The Bears are the AHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals.

A right-handed shot, Swoyer joined the Penguins as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan Tech in 2022. Signed to a one-year, entry-level contract, Swoyer entered this offseason as a pending restricted free agent but did not receive a qualifying offer, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent.

Swoyer, 25, split the 2022-23 season between the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL and Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.

In 36 AHL games, Swoyer (6-foot, 180 pounds) posted 11 points (one goal, 10 assists). In six ECHL contests, Swoyer recorded a single assist.

With Swoyer signed, the only players who finished the 2022-23 season under an NHL contract with the Penguins who remain unsigned are forward Danton Heinen and defenseman Peter DiLiberatore.

Follow the Penguins all season long.
