Former Penguins forward Jesse Puljujarvi joins AHL's Charlotte Checkers
Former Penguins forward Jesse Puljujarvi has signed a professional tryout contract (PTO) with the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).
That team announced the signing Monday evening.
The Penguins waived Puljujarvi on Saturday for the purposes of a mutual contract termination.
In 26 games with the Penguins this season, Puljujarvi had nine points (three goals, six assists) while averaging 11:36 of ice time per contest. At the AHL level, Puljujarvi has skated in four games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and posted three points (one goal, two assists).
The fourth overall selection of the 2016 NHL Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, Puljujarvi signed a two-year contract with the Penguins in February of 2024. That deal carried a salary cap hit of $800,000.
The Checkers are the AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers.
