Former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Tom Kuhnhackl has signed with Adler Mannheim of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) in his native Germany.

The team announced the transaction via a release Tuesday.

A fourth-round pick (No. 110 overall) of the Penguins in the 2010 NHL Draft, Kuhnhackl spent six seasons with the organization, including three at the NHL level. Primarily serving as a bottom-six defensive forward and a penalty killer, Kuhnhackl was a member of the franchise’s Stanley Cup championship teams in 2016 and 2017.

In 168 games with the Penguins, Kuhnhackl scored 39 points (11 goals, 28 assists).

A left-handed shot, Kuhnhackl (6-foot-2, 190 pounds) also played for the New York Islanders over portions of two seasons.

The 31-year-old spent last season with Skelleftea AIK in the Swededish Hockey League (SHL). In 32 SHL games, he scored 18 points (10 goals, eight assists) and helped Skelleftea reach the championship final series, losing to the Vaxjo Lakers, 4-1.
