Former Penguins forwards Carter Rowney and Adam Johnson have each signed with teams in Germany’s Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL).
The 33-year-old Rowney joined Lowen Frankfurt after spending the 2021-22 campaign as a member of the Detroit Red Wings. In 26 games last season, Rowney scored six points (four goals, two assists) while averaging 10:40 of ice time per contest.
Undrafted, the right-handed Rowney spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins and was a member of the franchise’s 2017 Stanley Cup championship team. In 71 career games with the Penguins, Rowney, a native of Grand Prairie, Alberta, scored 12 points (five goals, seven assists).
Johnson, 28, signed with the Augsburger Panther after splitting the 2021-22 season at the American Hockey League (AHL) level between the Ontario Reign and Lehigh Valley Phantoms. In 58 AHL games, Johnson, a native of Hibbing, Minn., had 18 points (five goals, 13 assists).
Also undrafted, the left-handed Johnson spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins, most recently during the 2019-20 campaign. In 13 career games with the Penguins, Johnson scored four points (one goal, three assists).
