Former Penn State QB Beau Pribula enters transfer portal again, will leave Missouri
A former Penn State quarterback and fan favorite is entering the transfer portal again.
Beau Pribula, Penn State’s former backup quarterback, has informed Missouri that he will enter the transfer portal, according to a Thursday report from CBS Sports.
Pribula spent one season as the Tigers starter after leaving Penn State last December.
Pribula, a Central York standout, completed 67.4% of his passes for 1,941 yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 10 games. He also rushed for 297 yards and six scores.
Pribula started his Missouri career on a heater, leading the Tigers to a 5-0 start. But losses to Alabama and Vanderbilt and an injury against Vandy derailed Mizzou’s CFP hopes.
Pribula entered the portal for the first time last December ahead of Penn State’s CFP run. His announcement came shortly before the news that Penn State starter Drew Allar was set to return for the 2025 season.
Pribula was a change-of-pace option for Penn State. In 2024, he rushed for 242 yards and five touchdowns and logged 187 offensive snaps.
Pribula also provided experience when Allar was injured. He entered in relief twice: in 2023 against Rutgers and in 2024 at Wisconsin. Pribula won both games.
James Franklin praised Pribula after he made the “impossible decision” to leave Penn State before the CFP, a decision prompted by the college football calendar.
“I can give you my word, Beau Pribula did not want to leave our program until the end of the season,” Franklin said. “But the way the portal is, the timing of it, the way our team is playing, and when you play the position of quarterback and there’s only one spot and those spots are filling up, he felt like he was put in a no-win situation, and I agree with him.
“… Beau Pribula is a wonderful young man. And I would recruit him every year. Knowing everything I know right now, I would recruit the heck out of Beau. Beau grew up wanting to come to Penn State his whole life. This is his dream school. And he had a phenomenal career here. And I just want everyone to understand that most importantly.”
Now, Franklin is gone, and new head coach Matt Campbell has a quarterback decision to make. The Nittany Lions could roll with redshirt freshman Ethan Grunkemeyer. Or they could search for a starter in the transfer portal.
Maybe Pribula would be an option to come back to Happy Valley. Or maybe he’ll rejoin Franklin at Virginia Tech.
