Penn State wide receiver Justin Shorter runs up the field during a game against Buffalo in University Park. Penn State won 45-13.

Justin Shorter is headed to the SEC.

The former Penn State wideout announced Sunday afternoon on Twitter that he is joining the Florida Gators’ program.

The 6-4, 230-pound Shorter posted a picture of himself in a Florida Gators uniform — wearing No. 6 — and attach the words “Officially Committed!”

Shorter is a gifted athlete who was viewed as a five-star recruit in James Franklin’s 2018 class.

But he struggled to find his groove during his two seasons with the Nittany Lions. After redshirting in 2018, Shorter began 2019 as a starter but he lost playing time as the season went on.

Shorter, who finished with 12 catches for 137 yards and no touchdowns, entered the NCAA Transfer Portal prior to Penn State’s final regular season game against Rutgers.

According to a 247sports report, Shorter made a trip to the Florida campus in December and took an official visit to the program this past weekend.

It’s uncertain if Shorter will be able to play in the fall. He would need an NCAA waiver to play immediately. Without one, he would have to wait until the 2021 season.

Also per 247sports, Dan Mullen’s Gators will be replacing several receivers, which could open a wide path to significant playing time for Shorter.
