Josh Spiegel is leaving Oklahoma State after two seasons for a new school closer to home.

The 2018 Penn-Trafford graduate has a couple of locations in mind but said he’s awaiting word from the schools’ admissions departments.

“I haven’t made my mind up yet,” said Spiegel, who is a catcher. “I just want to go to a place that gives me an opportunity to play and hopefully pursue a pro career.”

Spiegel is a redshirt freshman and is expecting to receive a transfer waiver which will allow him to be eligible right away. He will also get his fourth season back because the NCAA granted athletes from the spring their eligibility back when the season was canceled because of the coronavirus.

“I feel it’s the best option for me to leave Oklahoma State,” Spiegel said. “They have a great program, and I learned a lot when I was there.

“I also matured a lot as a person. I dealt with a lot of adversity. I basically was living on my own for two years.”

Spiegel got to bat four times for the Cowboys this past spring and collected two hits.

“I know I’m a good player,” Spiegel said. “I know wherever I end up, I have to earn my spot. But I’m confident I’ll get a chance to play right away.”

Spiegel and six other Penn-Trafford alumni are playing in the Johnstown Collegiate Baseball League for Paul Carpenter Capital Advisors. The team is 13-2.

“I’m having a pretty good season,” Spiegel said. “I just want to continue to improve my game.”

Spiegel is having a solid season with a .404 batting average with 19 hits including 10 extra base hits. Among the extra base hits are six doubles and three home runs. He homered in Thursday’s victory.

He also had 10 RBI, 10 walks and has scored 18 runs.

He hopes to make a decision on his future soon.
