Pittsburgh head coach Jeff Capel, center, greets seniors Anthony Starzynski, center right, Samson George (23) and Eric Hamilton (0) as they come out of the game after starting against Syracuse in an NCAA college basketball game, Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020, in Pittsburgh. It was Pitt’s senior night.

Samson George, who was honored as a departing member of the Pitt basketball team at the final home game Feb. 26, wants to continue his collegiate career.

George, a native of Minna, Nigeria, who expects to graduate from Pitt this year, has entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal.

In three seasons, George played in 27 games at forward, scoring 23 points with 26 rebounds. He attended First Love Christian Academy in Washington.

“Samson is an outstanding teammate and has been a terrific representative of the University of Pittsburgh,” coach Jeff Capel said. “I appreciate his efforts every day in practice and commitment to the program over the past two seasons. We support his decision to seek playing opportunities elsewhere and wish him the best of luck in the process.”

With George’s departure, only Terrell Brown remains from former coach Kevin Stallings’ nine-man 2017 recruiting class.
