Former Pitt guard Bub Carrington receives NBA All-Rookie Team recognition
Former Pitt guard Bub Carrington earned NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The Portland Trail Blazers drafted Carrington with the No. 14 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft and immediately dealt the Baltimore native to the Washington Wizards.
Entering the league at 19 years old, Carrington became the only rookie this season to play in all 82 games. He averaged 9.8 points, 4.4 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game and scored at least 10 points in 43 contests. Carrington also made 138 three-point field goals, the most by a Wizards rookie.
Among rookies, Carrington finished fifth with 807 points, second with 364 assists, seventh with 364 rebounds, sixth with 54 steals and first with 138 3-point baskets and 2,460 minutes played. After LeBron James, Carrington became the second player in NBA history to tally at least 800 points and 350 assists as a teenager.
Carrington is the third Pitt player to make the NBA All-Rookie Team. DeJuan Blair was a second-team selection in 2009-10, and Charles Smith was a first-team honoree in 1988-89.
Carrington also earned the Washington Wizards Dr. E.B. Henderson Team Award, which honors a Wizards player for his community work. Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation will donate $10,000 to the charity Carrington chooses to recognize his work.
After the Wizards drafted Carrington, he has been involved in several community and team events in Washington and Baltimore. Among Carrington’s charitable acts were providing breakfast to students at a Washington charter school and donating backpacks, books and other school items to students in Baltimore.
Dr. E.B. Henderson was a sports historian, coach, civil rights activist and was known as the “Grandfather of Black Basketball” in Washington. The Wizards 2025 Dr. E.B. Henderson Award Video showcases more of Carrington’s charitable work.
“I’m truly honored to receive the Dr. E.B. Henderson Award, as it reflects the power of giving back and being connected to the communities where we play and live,” Carrington said in a statement. “I know I am blessed to bless others, and when we pour into our communities, they pour back into us. This award represents the collective efforts of myself, my family, teammates and the entire Wizards organization — all working together to uplift and support one another.”
