Former Pitt guard Trey McGowens settled on his new home Saturday when he announced on his Twitter page his intention to transfer to Nebraska.

The Cornhuskers (7-25, 2-18) finished last in the Big Ten this season.

Former Pitt teammate Xavier Johnson originally signed with Nebraska in 2017 before changing his mind after Cornhuskers assistant coach Kenya Hunter left for Connecticut. Johnson was granted a release from his national letter of intent and committed to Pitt coach Jeff Capel in 2018.

McGowens previously announced eight finalists for his services, including SEC schools Auburn, Alabama, Arkansas and Ole Miss, along with TCU, Seton Hall and Xavier.

Unless the NCAA passes legislation that would allow transfers to play immediately, McGowens must sit out the 2020-21 season. He would be a junior with two years of eligibility in 2021.

McGowens announced last month he was transferring from Pitt after two seasons as a starter and one of Capel’s most prolific scorers.

McGowens averaged 11.6 points while starting 64 of 66 games for Pitt. This season, his assist total rose from 55 to 118 while turnovers increased from 80 to 94.

He will join former Pitt forward Shamiel Stevenson on the Nebraska roster.
