Pitt’s Darrin Hall tries to break a tackle against Stanford during the Sun Bowl on Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, in El Paso, Texas.

To clear space on the 90-man roster for the undrafted free agents they signed Saturday, the Pittsburgh Steelers waived three players Sunday, including former Pitt running back Darrin Hall.

Also waived were wide receiver Jamal Custis and safety Tray Matthews.

After drafting six players and signing 10 undrafted free agents, the Steelers had 93 players on their offseason roster. They now are compliant.

Custis and Matthews finished the 2019 season on the practice squad and were signed to reserve/futures contracts on Dec. 30, a day after the end of the regular season. Hall, who also spent time on the Steelers practice squad last year, was signed to a reserve/futures contract on Jan.7.

Custis, Matthews and Hall became expendable after the Steelers drafted players at each of their positions: WR Chase Claypool in the first round, RB Anthony McFarland in the fourth round and safety Antoine Brooks in the sixth round.
