In a matter of four days, Brandon Stone set his college basketball career on a new course.

On Saturday, he left the La Salle campus. On Monday, he entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.

By Tuesday, he had a new suitor: Robert Morris.

Yes, it happened that quickly for the former Southmoreland star, who was seeing limited minutes as a sophomore at La Salle.

“I just didn’t think it was a good fit for me anymore,” the 6-foot-11, 205-pound Stone said of La Salle. “I wasn’t happy and wanted to play closer to home so my family could see me play more often.”

He will move to campus for the second semester and will have to sit out the rest of this season. He will have three more years of eligibility.

Robert Morris initially recruited Stone and was the fourth of more than 20-plus Division I offers.

“They reached out to me as soon as I entered the transfer portal,” Stone said. “I got on the phone with coach (Andy) Toole. After talking with him, I knew it was a great opportunity and a good fit for me, so it made it an easy decision for me.”

Stone, who played at The Christ School (N.C.) after leaving Southmoreland, averaged 1.3 points and 1.8 rebounds per game in four games this season.

“I’m just excited to join the program at RMU and I’m ready to get to work,” Stone said.
