Former St. Francis (Pa.) standout Lorenzo Jerome signs with Calgary of CFL
Former St. Francis (Pa.) defensive back Lorenzo Jerome signed an entry-level contract with the CFL’s Calgary Stampeders, the reigning Grey Cup champions.
Jerome made the San Francisco 49ers’ opening-day roster in 2017 and appeared in four games before being released. This past season, he spent time in camp with the Seattle Seahawks and was one of the final cuts before the team set its 53-man roster.
Jerome, a native of Florida, was the first St. Francis player to appear in the NFL since 1952. With the Red Flash, he became the Northeast Conference’s first four-time all-conference first-team selection.
The Stampeders won their eighth Grey Cup in November, beating the Ottawa Redblacks, who were quarterbacked by Edinboro graduate Trevor Harris. In the wake of that victory, a handful of their players have signed with NFL teams, and several others are set to become free agents.
The CFL free-agency period begins Feb. 12.
